The Northern Plains and Midwest are about to get blasted. Temperatures as low as -25F are possible in some areas and heavy snow into Indiana, Ohio, etc. The storm is expected to move into the New York, New Jersey areas too.

Going to the hardware store tomorrow for a few supplies just in case. This turning into an ice storm is what worries me.
Has all time potential if the top end models happen. We're talking 2 feet in Memphis, Nashville, etc.... there's a model showing 3.5 feet in central VA.
Also showing 2.5 inches of ice in Atlanta. Which would be the worst ice storm in the history of the Deep South.
I read a book in grade school about a kid who goes to live in the woods and carves out a home for himself in a tree, and there's a chapter where a frost hits and he's huddled inside listening to trees explode and hoping he's not next.

That made me look into it and discover Frightful has his own book, that makes me happy.

Exploding Trees.... that is a fear i didn't know i should have
Is it actually exploding trees, or more like popping open trees?

WTF? This is new to me as well.
our snow prediction right now in central nj is anywhere from 3 to 11 inches. will be a fun guessing game
I don't really buy any of the modeling right now even as we are 72 hours out, they shifted by the order of hundreds of miles overnight and even the NWS is reporting "unpredecented unpredictability" which in their language is about as FUBAR as it gets.
That said, the current data suggests 2.5" of ice over me in Memphis. Idk what I'm even going to do about that. That's 2 weeks without power level bad. I'd lose $1500+ of stuff in my deep freezer, not to mention be stuck at home with no heat with it (allegedly) anywhere from -5F to -15F ...
It sounds like the deep freezer problem will solve itself.

This is what it's saying for my area right now.
