Well it took a while, but the rains have finally arrived. It's gross outside. I've got WoW and a ton of books to keep me occupied.

High tide is roughly around 3:30 AM and they've been talking on the news all night about storm surge. I'm in an "A" zone for evacuation but it says that my county isn't under any evacuation orders. Still, they're anticipating storm surge to come in and flood a lot of areas and I'm really not that far from the bay. I'm starting to wonder if my apartment (first floor but on an elevated plot of land) is high enough off the ground to avoid getting flooded and if I should start just picking up everything off the floor I can manage just in case. I have never been through a hurricane before and maybe I shouldn't have been watching the news.

For scale's sake, Whitney Road from Bolesta to 58th is half a mile. Gray is the water, and behind this apartment complex is a ton of swampy shit so I can't actually see the water from here.

Honestly, should I be worried? Because I am worried but if I don't need to be then please tell me.

Well, I'm about 2 hours from the hurricane making a landing on top of me and my anti-flooding preparation has consisted of stuffing towels along the frame of my front door. In my case I'm not near the coastline, though. Everything I've seen tonight has said the coastlines can expect a storm surge of 8-10 feet. That might pose a problem for you given how close you are.

Sidenote I am actually kind of impressed that, so far, I still have electricity and cable/internet at my place. Most of the city is out.

The thing is I'm quite a ways south of the storm. It's supposed to hit up in the bend of Florida, and I'm a good five hour drive from that. We've just been getting the bands of weather down here. So I'm wondering if the storm surge will be less here because we're not getting hit head on. But I haven't the slightest idea.

Actually I may be an idiot because I'm close to the bay side of Tampa and not the Gulf side, I don't think the bay will be having a lot of storm surge, certainly not as much as the Gulf of Mexico would.

Yeah I'm very underwhelmed with the storm. All the talk about how rough it would be on the news and the rain/storms didn't even wake me up over night. There's some localized flooding but that literally happens on a regular basis.

But hey, I got a five day weekend out of it. I just hope they don't try to force us to have make up days during the Thanksgiving break, because I've already got plans that week.

Some people think, "Oh, it's fall now, things will get better".
But two decades ago, back in middle school, I had a Halloween costume that was one of those, "it's gonna get hot in this thing" affairs. I was only ever able to use it twice.
Ever since, the summer heat has persisted all the way through to the very end of October.

Was like 75 yesterday without swimming in humidity for the first time in probably months. Got some shit done I'd been putting off implicitly because of the heat and got $60 out of it, too.
