More snow in Las Vegas. >.> I think they are going to call for a snow day tomorrow if this keeps up, which basically never happens (I never got one through all of my school years ).

Had a doctors appointment today. Afterwards I decided to get a sandwich from a local place on the way home. It wasn't raining yet and I thought, 'Good, maybe I can avoid being out in it today.' As I am driving it starts raining. Me: </sigh> I get to the place and order my food. As I am waiting on it a somewhat light rain turns into a DELUGE! It was one of those that it was raining so hard it was almost roaring. It lasted about 10 minutes with lightning and thunder about twice a minute. I saw the manager come out from the kitchen and look out the window and go, "Damn!! <mudder> <mudder>" I was going to take the sandwich home with me but screw that. I bet that area got an inch of rain during all that. Weatherman said today we are going to get 3-4 more inches before the weekend is over. A lot of rivers and streams in the valley areas are already overflowing.

Couple snow drifts from this past weekend's blizzards.

yeah, my fiancee had to abandon her car for a couple days. fucking gamestop doesn't give their regional managers the authority to close business, so the store leaders (who happened to live within walking distance) kept the doors open. and on her way home from work saturday night (literally the middle of the blizzard) she went in a ditch. fortunately she was only going 15, it happened less than 5 miles from her parents', and she's got Roadside, so it ended up not being too bad. some minor body damage to the car, but it's looking like we should be able to just ignore it. I-90 and all the other major connecting roadways are still closed, so while the towns themselves are coming back to life, no one can leave. which means she's been staying at her folk's. she's not happy being stuck there for so long, and it's looking like she may not have much of a window to get home before the NEXT storm hits... and then she'll have to turn right back around and drive through that fucking mess.

we're ready for winter to be done.

Also, they actually halted plowing and emergency services for a while, it was so bad. that practically never happens.

nah, even here this is highly unusual. normally by about the end of march most of the snow has melted and we're starting to get into spring.

maybe its just me but i feel like climate change has shifted our winter by 2 months.

Even in NY we've been getting snow in mid to late March since I was a kid. I remember going to St. Patty's Day parades with snow on the ground or falling.

It wasn't every year, but it was enough that I have memories of it.

a) as bane said this is highly unusual even for us. Minneapolis just instituted a one-sided parking policy until April, as in you can only park on one side of the street for the next entire month because the snow is so bad. that is historic.

b) your habit of coming in and shitting on other people for just doing what they do is really, really annoying. which, I suppose, is the point, so keep it up?

They didn't have the parking thing before? We have restrictions near me that you can't park on the streets overnight between Nov and April.

and no, usually one side of the street parking is temporary after heavy snowfall until they plow, at which point it's all good. on occasion it becomes permanent until the snow melts, but that is much more rare.

I'm talking 60 miles north of NYC. It's a suburban area so they're worried about county roads getting blocked by people ditching their cars.

NYC actually removes alternate side parking rules, letting you park on either side, for snow removal.

oh yeah if it's suburban you either have apartment lots or driveways, makes sense. I was picturing an urban center/city with zero street parking overnight and I couldn't make it work lol

duluth does one-side parking year-round. they don't get snow year round, but it's just less confusing to leave the rule in place. the way the city is perched on the side of the hill, they don't have room to make their streets as wide as they'd like.

twin cities usually have wide enough streets they don't have to worry about it but the sheer volume of snow we've gotten in the last few days is restricting that.

generally, when the terrain lets us, we build our cities with nice, wide streets and parks everywhere. i've heard coasters find it quite pleasant. aside from downtown, they never feel like they're in a city.

You do have some super wide boulevards. It's p sweet. Snow season ends at the end of March and then the snow dies off over the next month. Y'all have some wild temp swings in March.
