I remember when I was a kid my Mom had those chains you put on your tires when it snowed because you literally could not find snow tires around here. She was a PA in surgery and had to be there.

Severe Winter weather advisory and the local radar looks like one of those paintings where they just throw different paints at the canvas. Blues, purples and some green. Tonight's going to be a ride.

When I lived in Nevada I had studded tires for my truck during the winter. I got them when I was working lift maintenance at one of the ski areas. I could drive up the mountain to work in the middle of a blizzard. It was great. Then when I got a different job they just made it so I could get to work no matter what. If I ever live in the snow again I would definitely get them for my truck again.

And probably 90% of vehicles on the road at this point have anti-lock brakes now so

Rear wheel cars with lots of torque still suck in the snow with all-seasons. You have to really feather the throttle.

I see a few Dodge Challengers with chained tires rolling around when it gets snowy here. Its a pretty badass look, but also practical if you plan on driving in the snow in a very impractical vehicle for the snow.

Its been about 10 hours with both water pressure and power. We are under a boil water alert still. It snowed another 3 inches today. I'm about to shower for the first time in days.

I have not bought winter tires recently, but when I had my WRX I got winters for it since the stock tires were summers. That thing was a beast in the snow as long as it didn't come up to the body.

Since this started on Saturday I have yet to have lost power (beyond a few flickerings). I started looking around on google maps and come to find out the new subdivision we moved into is about 1.5 miles from a Baylor Scott & White Medical Center as well as 2 miles from a St Davids Hospital. I assume from this we are probably on the same circuit that feeds those two med centers.

Lost water though on Tuesday morning but got it back yesterday., still under a boil water notice. Looked at my electric usage and despite what has been going on this past week (billing period ends today as well) it looks like will have maybe a... $30 at most increase with taxes, fees, etc. which honestly isn't bad. Guess the new house we got was built with good insulation after all. Kept it at 66-67 (and sometimes 68) with the electric fireplace in the living room on earlier part of the morning due to my two guinea pigs being in the living room.

Should be good till Sunday for food easy, but need to go hit up the Sonic about four miles down the road that is in Cedar Park and not under a water boil notice. Get one of their bags of sonic ice and be set until the boil notice goes away. What sucks is that I have to replace my water filter...and that shit is NOT cheap !

    For all my TX BGer's:

Per ERCOT, energy conservation is no longer needed (per them and their grid map). Energy conservations are above 7k.

That's the only thing good about Sonic. Pellet ice. I hope you get your water back soon. Going without electricity for a few days is not bad but going without a source of clean water sucks!

Was over 70 today and a bit windy. I was able to turn the heat completely off and open some screened windows to let fresh air circulate. Had to be some kind of record. Living in a temperate zone is just bonkers now.

It's going to be low 40s in the morning for the next couple of days in parts of Texas. It's already 50 where I am.
