Nah, no need to reassess. If you have to go out of your way and read a redditor's synopsis of a show to understand it instead of just watching the show for fun, and not as if researching a thesis paper, it sucks.

Shows intended for a mass audience should be easy to follow. Using names with no camera-pan to the person's face is dumb when you have so many characters

All I could think about while reading that synopsis is holy fuck these guys could have done a way better job conveying to the audience wtf was going on. At like, every turn, too.

Terrible execution and delivery can pretty easily make an otherwise good story terrible, which seems to be the problem of season 2.

The story sounds and looks good and interesting on paper, but the show is doing a terrible job in portraying it. So no, that article doesn't change much to me with my opinion of the show... if anything it just reinforces how poorly all of this is being done.

the story isnt even good to begin with

"people in higher up positions are making sketchy business deals and having spooky sex parties and they're trying to cover their asses" is not in itself interesting if you have no reason to give a fuck about anyone who is affected by it

part of the allure of season 1 is the creepy vibe and the mysterious aspect of it, in s2 you had reason to suspect people in power from the start and the show hard wired the viewer to assume this/not car about the first "victim" because we knew they were involved in shady business dealings

the show is poorly written on a basic level and also on pretty much every other level there is, honestly the only character's back story who is of any interest is velcoro's

yeah when i heard way back that cary fukunaga wasn't directing the second season i began having severe doubts about it.

part of the funny thing is i heard more than one critic say that season 1 built up to a huge letdown at the end cause of the whole supernatural/cult vibe buildup to start. bet those guys are missing that right about now.

watched episodes 3-7 over the past few days to catch up before finale

I've enjoyed the season for the most part. Vince Vaughn's performance is really strange, but I think he does a legitimately good job in some of his scenes. His cringey scenes are mostly due to terrible writing.

It feels like more of a missed opportunity than anything as they casted some serious talent. I love Farrell's performance and think McAdams and Kitsch have done well with what they were given.

What in the actual fuck, is that true? S1 Finale is probably my favorite example of slow-burn suspense and existential horror on TV. Carcossa made me moderately jealous of people who get to do set design.
