So being from New England everyone on my book of faces keeps posting shit like this:
http://yourteamcheats.com/cheaters/
I don't know football or follow it really but blind sports loyalty really bothers me. Can someone (hopefully objective) explain to me what all Brady is accused of here so I can pwn some people?![]()
He is accused of having the team equipment manager intentionally deflate the football to lower than the psi levels specified in the NFL rules. This possibly makes the footballs easier to grip and catch and harder to fumble.
Well I was thinking more from the angle of how "they're just focusing on Brady because everyone hates the Pats even though everyone cheats" angle. How bad is this compared to the regular ongoings of the NFL? Was the punishment fair or too harsh? Was it harsh because the Pats were defiant rather than admitting it in the first place? etc etc.
Never count him out?
Well yes, thats why I'm looking for some objective answers and its hard to find them
Thanks.
The view I've heard that justifies the 4 game suspension is that it's the same punishment players who get caught using PEDs get and the NFL is treating this as a similar offense.
The reality is, this probably goes on a lot more than (current) QBs are willing to admit. I'd recommend making fun of Pats fans because their team sucks at cheating.
I won't say that every team does stuff like this, but the Patriots certainly aren't the only ones. As for how bad it is, it most likely a very minor advantage, but it's really hard to say what effect it could have had on any given game.
Answering the second question first, the Pats organization and Brady in particular being defiant definitely was a factor in the punishment. The fact that the team has also been caught doing shady shit before (recording other teams practices and sideline signals during games) also played a roll. As for the level of punishment I feel that it's fair, although I probably would have fined the team more. Was the punishment fair or too harsh? Was it harsh because the Pats were defiant rather than admitting it in the first place? etc etc.
Thanks for answering. One last question.
I keep Pats fans saying shit like "widely suspected" of deflating the ball. How legitimate is the inquiry that went into this whole thing? Can it really never be said that it was done for sure or are those fans in denial?
Let me preface this by saying I have not read the actual report (it's like 250 pages), so I can't say for certainty about a lot of aspects of it.
One of the defenses that Pats fans have argued was that there was no smoking gun which definitively proves Brady was involved. However, in one of his Super Bowl press conferences, Brady stated that he picks his balls and doesn't want anyone messing with them. I, and I imagine many others, have a hard time believing that these two staff members would do anything to alter the balls without Brady's approval because Brady and all top tier QBs are control freaks. There's no way that someone else would take it upon themselves to alter the balls without Brady's go-ahead.
My understanding of the events: NFL officials test balls, get them within the accepted range. Pats employee takes the balls, locks himself in a bathroom or something (on video), comes out with them. First half goes on, Colts intercept one of Brady's passes, notice something wrong. They test the balls at halftime, all of the Pats balls are under the accepted pressure. Those values are recorded, and although the NFL did not previously record the PSI before the game (because they had not previously had a scandal about deflated balls), there was a difference.
They're in denial, the investigator was given access to text messages sent between the equipment manager and another Patriots employee acting as a go between for Brady. Brady himself refused to turn over his phone for examination citing privacy concerns, which is understandable, but the stuff from the other two is pretty damning.
The reason why people are saying stuff like it's only suspected is because Brady was smart enough to never come right out and say stuff like "Hey, make sure they equipment guy underinflates those balls." Instead it would be generic stuff like "Make sure the balls are the way I like them."
The problem is that NFL officials would inspect the balls before game time and certify that they meet standards. Then they would have to be deflated after that but before the game started. In return the equipment guy would demand stuff like new shoes, game jerseys, and autographed memorabilia which Brady provided.
So while it may not be enough to convict him in a Court of Law, it is more than enough for the NFL to find that he knew what was going on and it was done at his direction.
Fuck tom
Tom Br4dy. Just total elite level boss fucking pocket awareness. What a beast
When he wins this year he'll have won 10% of all Superbowls.
Be mad about it.
