No, they were properly inflated when the refs finished checking them. Between that point and the start of the game, there's a video where one of the Patriots' employees (I think he was like an equipment manager or something) walks into a bathroom(?) with the balls, locks the door, and then comes out two minutes later or something.
There was two different gauges used to measure the PSI of the footballs, each of which gives different results.
Walt Anderson said he checked the Patriots footballs with the pump that would exonerate them completely with numbers in line with the science of atmospheric conditions causing the deflation (Colt balls were under 12.5 PSI, too). In other words, NO TAMPERING took place. The loss in air pressure was entirely natural because of the rain and cold.
However, Wells decided to insist that he used the other pump, despite the testimony, to make it look like tampering took place.
His own fucking report says so.
A ballboy deflating all the balls Mission Impossible style in 78 seconds in a bathroom as something people actually believe happened says a lot about how a sensationalist news media rot your brain.
Except he should not have had the balls. You seem to have a hard time with this, but the NFL does not need to match the same standard as our legal system. They do not have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that tampering occurred.
And I'm guessing you've never put air in your tires based on that statement..
I bet if you were experienced so much so you've earned the nickname "The Deflator", you could do it in 30 seconds and still have time to take a piss. 40 seconds is amateur hour. 78 seconds is playground shit.
Every time I see "the Deflator" I think of this guy from Conan:

This does not work as well as you think it does.
Also this is worth a quick re-read.

Also, you have a very poor understanding of what "best possible recollection" and "certainly possible I could be wrong" mean.
