You're lucky if you get the item you want from CT. I capped on mytho (and philo) looking for various pieces the last two weeks and still ended up settling for something else. It's something to do I guess.

After doing 12+ runs last week trying to get a specific piece I've learned to just say fuck it and grab whatever looks appealing/useful.

Dude, 0/14 caster legs so I said fuck it I'll do crimson for now. Drop rate was worse, I know I spent a good 2 weeks hunting 'em up.

I do like 2-4 CTs a week and by then get my item drop and get all the tomes I could ever want in a week. I've also not been super picky about which piece I take for my smn alt and as a result I am now 4/6 on that set. I took the pieces as they dropped so I have all but belt and hat now and only reason no hat is because I have myth hat. Figuring it'll be a bit harder to finish off the set than it was to get it going.

3-4 runs per week is my max, by run #3 I'm already in the mindset of "I'll take whatever drops". I know some people who are doing 10-15 runs per week to chase specific pieces and I can't relate at all, that shit's just crazy and asking for burnout

I was after specifically tank boots a couple of weeks ago since coil is stingy, ended up running it 20+ times or something stupid. Got to the point where dropping out after Thanatos and doing something else was preferable. Ended up making both vanya minions, a book for SMN and I think the last 1.5 crafted accs for mages on that philo.

Luckily got something first run last week and second this, but def wouldn't do that again.

CT is also like (most, back in the day) Dynamis in that you barely have to pay attention for the rewards. Can easily spiritbind will you do it; I offload accessories and pink gear gotten from treasure maps this way.

With how easy i90 gear will be to get in March I see no point farming CT for specific i80 gear. So I take whatever my tank job can use. I do kinda want caster body for vanity but I'd feel like an ass lotting that in my full 90 set.

I wouldn't worry about being an ass. FFXIV so far has been surprisingly good in my experience when it comes to loot drama in instances [excluding pug groups for coil and maybe other misc. things, I don't do them). I've not had a single person whine about "but you're already wearing that!" or "your current item is better!" moan. Although to be fair in CT the loot is localised to your 8 man party rather than having all other 23 people examine you when you win a piece, but given the loot the rules and how people want specific pieces it kind of branches out quite well.

In WoW's Looking for Raid (basically Duty Finder for 25 man instances) because specific tokens that can be exchanged for gear is shared amongst 3 classes (1 of the tokens is shared with 4!) winning just one item quickly puts you in the spotlight as the entire raid picks apart your character, including whispers from people demanding you trade them the item (there's a 2 hour cool off period before it becomes permanently yours). This has been "fixed" though as Blizzard introduced a roulette (blind) loot system; where upon killing a boss you're randomly assigned some money, or a loot, and no one can see. To my disappointment, loot drama was fun when you sit back and watch the raid degenerate into headless chickens.

It's effectively 1 item per person per week right now anyway (8 people, 8 drops if you're clearing 1~5). Whatever they do, they can't make it any worse. I'll just be happy to finally be able to help some of the lesser experienced members along.
