Sorry for the bad info on the boarding house, Bane. My bad. ; ;
Thought I was doing pretty well for a while until I realised I messed up at a point and my workers all started dying out and hadn't had many children. Whoops.
don't worry about it. we're all still figuring everything out. and that village has actually been working out quite well.
i think the boarding house does slow down their reproduction, though. they had a few more kids after that, but i dont think they had as many as they usually would have. part of that is because i've been VERY slow getting them all housed individually, since i'm going straight for stone houses, but i think another part is the boarding house.
Got 12 hours into the game, when I keep getting a repeatable fatal error at the same point every time. Posted on the support forums, nothing yet. Oh well, fingers crossed for a solution soon.
God this game is easy once you figure out how to control population via housing and food. A lot of families living with their parents but that saved me during the food crisis of 74 lmao. Really though, keeping production below 100% is really key so you have a little extra output during those growing pains
Oh I love it. Drives me nuts from time to time but I keep coming back to it as a change from ffxiv
I'm already at the eh point with this game. With no challenges or anything, once you solve the food issue, game goes easy mode and boring.
^ I'm still fine with that, though. The modders will have a field day with it, leading to more life in the long run, and more importantly, somebody showed the industry that a badass civ/city sim/builder can be made without it having to be done by Maxis. Yeah yeah, I know about Tropico (Cities XL was a buggy fucking mess), but this still means a lot to me.
Eh I wouldn't call it bad ass though. It appealed to me because of how simple it was, but once you figure out the "trick" there's no other challenge to really surmount and after only 2 1/2 days I'm bored.
Maybe mods will keep me entertained, but well see I guess.
To each their own. People get bored of things at different speeds. For $20 bucks, this is fantastic.
im also bored of it now but i definitely got my 20 bones worth. Hoping for some good mods
It sounded like the sole-developer is banking on the mod community to help keep the game fresh and have longevity. I'm fine with that.
yeah, i'm eagerly awaiting some bad-ass mods.
also, more on the boarding house: fertility is apparently a thing. i never noticed it until i showed banished to my cousin and her husband, and our new city's growth stopped... my cousin's husband pointed out that all but two of our women were over 50, which explains why my own village is currently barely growing. i don't know exactly how many citizens the boarding house can hold, but they won't have babies until there's room. and you don't control who lives where so that means sometimes your old farts take houses that could go to fertile young couples, while the young couples age without having kids. so... probably not too bad as a first build, but you need to get them out of it fairly quickly or your population will age-out.
sorry if i came across as doubting- it's definitely a thing. i was just taken unawares by it is all.
No problem! All of it was learned through trial and error.
just got into this game recently, had a small city and then my crops got infested, then winter came and killed off everyone, not enough food or firewood.
then my next game winter came before i even had a couple houses built haha.
its very fun though i really like the emphasis on survival.
