I could swear they mentioned somewhere that relics will always be upgradable with new patches, hence the new naming convention instead of +1/2/3/etc.
Though I could've been half asleep at the time and just remembering a discussion in FC chat![]()
Quick question about vanity. I've never played WoW, so I'm not 100% on how vanity works. Is it gonna be possible to wear Fuma on BRD, or does it only work with gear that BRD can wear?
God I would so love to play WHM with PLD AF/AF+1 on.
What? I don't know about you, but I went into coil with full Darklight, a NQ relic, and a Hero's ring and did just fine; tossing a piece or two of left-side i80 gear on top of that would've been really nice.. not to mention it makes gearing mages and especially tanks much less of a headache than it was.
Your argument assumes one would wait 5 weeks to get everything from CT before moving onto Coil, which is, of course, blatantly headpants.
People seem to forget coil was planned to be done with dark light. Turn 1,2,3 can be done with less I would say even.
Turn 4 is where you kinda want to be closer to 80.
I've always hoped for a weapon/gear combination quest, e.g. need Allagan+Primal+Zenith to make a new i100 weapon... or something similar, that way the road to complete the best weapon/gear doesnt take 1 day, it could take a month or more, and have to have actual some semblance of skill.
Ya, I mean people need to think of what CT is designed for. Casuals who may not have the kind of time to practice coil once they start like other groups. Any bit of extra gear will help those people make things smoother.
Needless to say, I don't think SE really "lied" in regards to this concept, whether someone likes the design or not.
I wouldn't make much sense other than to give even more powerful weapons to those who can get allagan weapons, combining weapons/gear wouldn't take months as is, It would take only as much as it takes you to get an allagan weapon, if you can get a T5 weapon you can get a Primal weapon in less than an hour and Zenith only takes 2 weeks if you have 0 myth tomes.
Hopefully they use Rift's vanity system instead of WoW, GW2, or EQ2.
Rift gave you multiple character sheets for different looks that you can swap to any time, instead of having to re-skin each piece of gear one at a time every time you want another appearance.
I'm getting the unfortunate vibe that they'll be doing the sacrificial skinning route for vanity.
CT was meant to be a gear gap filler into Coil. It not only came out late but came out as a one piece weekly lockout system. The point was that there shouldn't even be a lockout timer on gear there in the first place. To add to the point, Myth gear is marginally slower to get for the casual player and does a better job at powering them through coil. CT would have significantly more purpose for the casual player if i90 myth gear wasn't available until turns 6-9 were available. Instead of CT being a great place to gear up and prepare casuals for coil it's an ok-ish system that, at best, just defers buying a myth piece by a couple weeks for casual players.
CT will become even less impressive if they allow unrestricted coil access + an echo bonus in 2.2. On top of that, we will likely see the next set of AF gear purchasable by whatever tomestones they throw our way. At that point I will consider CT absolutely pointless content. Don't worry though we still have another couple of months and 3 delays until 2.2 so CT might stay plenty relevant until March/April or whatever.
That's what i was really hoping for as well. But we are definitely not going to get something that simple and functional.Hopefully they use Rift's vanity system instead of WoW, GW2, or EQ2.

CT feet and hands for monk have accuracy. My monk was sitting at 490+ accuracy for a few weeks after getting those pieces in CT. Don't be an idiot with which ones you pick in CT vs which ones are better myth upgrades for raiding coil as MNK.
Tank feet have accuracy if you are upgrading pants slot out of DL legs but need some accuracy to make up for the 43 you lose from DL. Valor body has 0 accuracy. Valor gauntlets have 0 accuracy. Tons of BiS i90 gear has 0 accuracy rata. You are obviously still going to need certain key DL pieces for accuracy (i.e. hands + legs for tank) before you get coil/myth pieces that make up the accuracy.
But more importantly, Tank body/head have tons of parry which you don't get in either slot when you start the most common upgrade path out of DL body for about 50% of PLD. i.e. First thing almost every tank did in 2.0 was get out of their DL body tincan. For a lot of PLD this meant getting Valor Crown+ Hoplite Body as the cheapest myth upgrade to get out of DL. This combo sucks because NEITHER piece gave you parry. Now, paladins are able to grab valor crown + CT body (+21acc) and CT body still gives them parry and warriors can get myth body + valor crown for another parry+acc combo to hold them over as they start gearing up.
Or even more generally. Casters, healers, and tanks got fucked over upgrading from i70 DL that took up 2 slots to an i90 piece that took up 1 slot and i60 gear for the other. Lots of people raided for awhile waiting for the other piece to drop. I got feet my first time in turn 1 and body my second time in turn 1. This meant that I was stuck waiting for myth purchases / turn 2 pants drop while I was wearing hoplite in the other slot. CT means you can grab the other piece and be on your way in a week rather than waiting to accumulate 2 weeks worth of myth or a drop so you won't be hindered in progression for a critical role in your static b/c its undergeared for turns 4 + 5. OT in my coil static beat Twintania before he saw a pair of boots drop for his PLD from turn 1.
TL;DR If you pay attention to the gear progression of jobs from DL into i90 each CT set has a few key pieces that help make the transition easier.
