    Healing/party cursor falling off randomly?

I play with a controller on the PC, and recently I've noticed my healing cursor falling off when healing. Then I have to manually target the other player again, which is kind of a drag, aside from being potentially hazardous in boss battles.

However, the cursor stays on the player some of the time, so I'm not sure what is causing this. Could it be one of my settings? Whatever the case is I'm trying to find out what it is so I can heal more easily. I have a focus target heal macro, but I would like more control over things.

Any healers/controller users that can help?

Are you sure you're not just confusing primary/secondary target? When you already have a primary target and you choose something else with your dpad, you'll be on a secondary target until you press X, which will change your current secondary target to your primary target. If you just perform an action it'll automatically untarget your secondary target and go back to your primary one.

Repeating what was said above, xiv has what I've dubbed hard and soft targeting. The targeting that's default bound to controller d-pad is soft targeting, which will revert you back to your hard target after performing an ability. You have to press your confirm button to change a soft target into a hard target.

It's actually incredibly awesome once you get used to it. You can have the enemy or offtank focus targeted, the main tank hard targeted, and use soft targeting to heal party members-- if you decide not to cast an ability on the party member to go back to the tank all you have to do is hit cancel to return to your hard target.

I do think there was a change in dpad targeting, though I can't put my finger on it.

I want to say that previously, if you subtargeted without a hard target, it would automatically set that as your hard target. Now, I think you can subtarget cast without confirming a target at all.

Yeah, I play on the PS3 and I can keep my primary tank targeted and still cast on others without losing him as my target. You just go over the PT list and click the ability instead of clicking on them then the ability

not the same situation precisely, but I did notice a couple times while healing a CM-HM that my target indicator fell off of who i was trying to heal either midcast or barely precast and would end up healing myself. I just chalked it up to an accidental click somewhere that made me lose my target w/o realizing it, but doesn't sound TOO different from the OP.

    BTW, keyboard/mouse on PC

What is your combination for curing? If you use DPAD, you could just be accidentally hitting the DPAD before your controller registers L2/R2.

Yeah after reading this thread I think I am not locking my "hard target". Need to do some checking.

I'm not sure what you mean by this...I just cure normally?

Means in a case like if your cure is like L2+Dpad up, and you're hitting up before you have L2 held down.
