    Power Supply died, replaced and now GPU runs hot?

    So the other night my PSU died, swapped it out with the one I replaced it originally with 2 years ago, and suddenly my GPU runs about 10-15C hotter than it would normally, any specific reason why this would happen and any potential fixes other than deal with it?

    The card I run is a GTX 560ti
    Idle temp sits at 50c, where as before it was at 38c
    XIV runs at peak 75c, where as before it was 60c
    Boarderlands 2 peaks at 70c where as before it was 55c

    I do use air cooling, and the temps are not disturbingly high but noticeably higher than they used to be with the only thing changed out being power supply, the entire PC was cleaned out 2 weeks prior to all of this happening.

    PSU that died was a Corsair HX850 and replaced it with... some 750 watt Cyber Power PSU I don't know the model of it.

    Is the psu blowing hot air onto the gpu?

    nope, if anything it would be blowing that onto the heatsink I have for my CPU.

    Using an older, less powerful, and less efficient PSU can lead to GPUs running hotter (and gradually enduring more wear-and-tear as a result). Do you happen to remember what your GPU operated at when you used this PSU originally?

    Unfortunately I do not and I will not be hearing from Corsair until earliest Monday about RMA.

    edit: I also assume that this isn't specific to just GPUs but the entire system as a whole, but having watched the temps of my CPU and HDD and mobo I haven't really seen them go above what they normally would operate at, just the card . I can live without playing the titles above until I get a replacement but just frustrating if that is the case with older PSU causing it.

    could be that your other PSU wasn't delivering enough power to begin with, therefor causing your GPU to get less voltage and operate at slower speeds, generating less heat. early kepler and later fermi cards tend to run pretty hot, 50c for idle is a little abnormal (although, if you're running more than just one monitor it could be classified as normal), however 70~75c under heavy load is completely normal.

    Depending on the way that the fan for the PSU works, you could also have a different airflow going on. PSUs can be used to pull hot air out of the case, or force cool air in from the bottom as hot air is pulled out from the top. If the fan is less efficient on the current PSU, it may not be achieving that function as well as it did before. However, this causing over 20C in temperature difference is extremely unlikely.

    make sure that your power option in nVidia control panel is set to adaptive, and if you use OC software to set a custom fan curve (which you should), make sure that it's still working properly.

    I understand why this seems like it would be the case, as it sounds logical—less power equals less activity equals less heat—but this is usually not what is happening.

    The reason inefficient PSUs with higher wattage make GPUs run hotter than superior PSUs is related to the inferior PSU's rails. A low +12v rail will ramp up voltage regulator cycles, which in turn makes the graphics card significantly hotter.

    This is why, when building a computer, it's always a better idea to buy a PSU with lower reported wattage but excellent efficiency than it is to buy a cheap PSU with high wattage but shit efficiency.

    (The other things you said, including potentially altered airflow, are accurate, though I do not think they could explain such a drastic change in this case.)

    Since it sounds like the replacement PSU is something on the cheap/low quality end of the spectrum, I would agree that the above poster is correct. PSU is one of the components you never cut corners on, imo.

    Yeah it wasn't intentional, I have to use my PC for some work related things so having it down for any extended period of time is a bad thing, I'll just avoid gaming on it until then. Shipped the dead PSU out and hopefully will have a replacement for it by next week. Thanks all for some knowledge on a subject I wasn't that familiar about, learned a quite a bit from everything posted.
