I need a way to keep track of the 1200 pieces of equipment that get swapped and when.

If you look at the image below, you'll see a small sample of the spreadsheet I use to track the cardio equipment.

I need it to auto-calculate the number of treadmills at each location.

I think something called pivot tables might be involved?

If you just want a total count of the number of entries (I'm assuming this is what you mean), the COUNTA function across the cell range of the list will return the total number of non-blank cells.

That would be the simplest way to do it.
