Oh wait... the Eagles did... 1/year 5.5M. That places Maclin as the No. 25 top paid WR per year. No. 1 WR money, fresh off of a torn ACL. A thirsty team would have paid him more, hence why he was given a contract before the FA market opened.

The thing is, there are a ton of good receivers right now, and even more coming out in the draft. Most of those teams you listed already have legit #1 receivers. Maclin's contract is probably the best he could get from anyone coming off his latest bout with Maclaids.

Maclin is betting on himself here. He saw what Riley Cooper was able to do in 10 games with Foles as a starter in Kelly's offense and realizes that he could have a huge season, leading to a massive contract. The Eagles were looking for a longer term deal, but he favored and got the 1 year deal where he can easily make more next FA (or through a contract extension this season.)

They are pretty good, and I live up the street from the Glazer family. They are conservative, in most aspects.

But a couple deals that came to mind, especially in trying to compete in that division:
Darrelle Revis: $13,000,000
Josh Freeman: $8,500,000
Mike Williams: $7,200,000

The thing with the Bucs is they always seem to have cap money to do those things. So if the owner or GM wanted to get Maclin, he wouldn't be afraid to spend. Considering Mike Williams is paid like a top WR.

I agree completely. My initial comment about him being stupid for taking a 1-year deal had me assuming it was much less 5.5M. I think it is a pretty fair deal. I think the Raiders would have offered around the same, if not more. The Raven's need a WR as well, and if Blackmon can't stay on the field, I could have seen them offer similar money.

I think it is absurd to talk about a Josh Gordon trade, but if the Browns were looking to trade Gordon for draft picks --- Browns have a decent amount of money to beat that offer as well.

lol if that's how you want to define "no. 1 WR money." Free agency inflates contracts, hence why Davone Bess and Harry Douglas are technically making "no. 1 WR money." Vincent Jackson got 5yrs/55m, Pierre Garcon got 5yrs/40m, Mike Wallace 5yrs/60m - all of these deals are long term and high annual value because the team is expecting no. 1 WR production and is screwed if they don't get it (see: Dolphins).

As dumb as some GMs are, I don't see any way Maclin would have gotten a Mike Wallace deal coming off of a bad injury history with a recent ACL tear and good but not great production.

with revis literally 0 is guaranteed, they did really well with that one, and they can get out of it with absolutely no repurcussions

freeman was pretty standard at the time for a first round qb with that kind of potential, but yeah they probably could have done less than the 5-6m/yr guaranteed

williams is tough to call at this point because he was paid under the expectation of continued improvement, at which point it would actually become a very good deal for the bucs, and then he got hurt
