I don't really see why his salary is an issue at all, at least from a production standpoint.

We don't know what the Eagles know about the situation, but they could very well have gotten something in return in a trade, but decided they couldn't in good conscience do so knowing what they know.

ESPN keeps reporting that he was released "after an NJ.com article reported his association with gang members."

NJ.com is a terrible website and I wouldn't trust a thing they report.

If someone wanted to give a 4th round draft pick or whatever obviously they would've taken it. You don't throw away value like that - noone wanted him at that salary.

They were saying on the radio here that he is being investigated in connection with two separate murders, and that there was a lot more to the house break in than has been reported. They also said that the release was based purely on "conduct detrimental to the team" and not salary or performance issues.

For a team to let a 27 year old #1 WR go without getting anything for him it must be something really bad.

Or you are completely wrong, and what Adam Schefter and others have been reporting is correct: they weren't going to trade "damaged goods" to another team and hurt their reputation.

It's pretty idiotic to think someone like the Raiders with insane cap space wouldn't trade a 7th round pick for him. I'm going to go with Schefter and Louis Riddick on this one.

I'm not. It was in response to tyven saying they should have just used his salary as justification for the cut. Then people would be up in arms wondering why they didn't trade him for anything.

organizations should vet players they are trading for, same way they have to pass a physical.

It's a strange situation. You also have to take into account that nj.com released this article just before he was cut:

I doubt any of this is coming from a place of altruism on the Eagles's part(not a dig, wouldn't expect it from any team). For whatever reason, they didn't think they could make a trade without hiding something or looking like they were trying to hide something about him. If it comes down to getting a 6th round pick or not, it isn't that big a deal if you just outright release him to protect your reputation.
