Comcast will punish you if you attempt to cancel service with them after your house burns downAfter the media started requesting official comment from Comcast, Comcast got in touch with the customer to tell him that they canceled his service, credited him for days without service, and forgave the cost of the equipment. The Comcast representative suggested Schmidt bring Ware to a Comcast office, where he could cancel his service in person and return his cable equipment.
"You're kidding, right?," Schmidt said she asked about the equipment.
"Oh yeah, you said there was a fire," Schmidt recalled of what the representative told her. Schmidt was also told Ware would continue to be charged $140 a month for cable, as well as the cost for the equipment.
"I laughed and said, 'I will dig the equipment out of the burned rubble and bring it back to you if you're going to charge me,'" Schmidt said. "Unfortunately, I couldn't find it. I did look." The city razed the house and the one next door on Friday for safety reasons.
http://www.twincities.com/business/c...-cable-serviceA representative said the matter hadn't been handled properly, that Ware's cable service had been canceled -- backdated to the fire -- and he wouldn't be charged for the cable equipment, Schmidt said.
Comcast spokeswoman Mary Beth Schubert said in a statement Tuesday: "We understand that this is a difficult time for Mr. Ware and apologize for the inconvenience."
Never liked comcast
These companies are the worst. Unfortunately, there is normally literally only one choice for internet service in any one area. Which causes a nice little monopoly and no reason to improve because people are stuck with them.
Obama has not been a good president at all when it comes to things like transparency, privacy rights, and whistleblower protections. In a more sane world this executive order would be ruled unconstitutional because this kind of seizure clearly violates the 4th Amendment rights of U.S. citizens, but of course "national security" so we throw all that constitutional rights stuff out the window.I don't want to add to the "Dictator Obama" narrative.. but What the flying fuck, Obama????
What's particularly disturbing is that there doesn't even appear to be any kind of judicial process to determine who is engaged in so-called "malicious cyber-enabled activities", a term so vague that I'm sure every police jurisdiction who participates in large-scale civil asset forfeiture would love to get in on this.
Are we sure this isn't just a really sick April Fools' joke?
Google Fiber plans expansion, then TWC makes speeds six times faster
Good guy Time Warner, speeding up peoples connections for free. With Google Fiber preparing an expansion into Charlotte, North Carolina, incumbent cable operator Time Warner Cable is trying to hold onto customers by dramatically increasing Internet speeds at no extra charge.

Comcast is abandoning their plan to take over TWC.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...e-warner-cable
Apparently the Justice Dept. and FCC were planning to oppose the merger.
I'm very glad. Means I can stay a TWC Employee. People can bitch about em all they want, but TWC does take care of it's employees...for which I am grateful as my son had a rocky life the first two years after he was born. Only thing now is that it opens for Charter to restart their bid to buy TWC. After this though... I don't think they will either right away. They weren't willing to go above 135/share..or hell, they may not have the financial backing for it anymore.
Charter doesn't have the cash to go after them now. Not surprised that the JD and FCC were going oppose it.
Thank god. TWC is bad enough with Shitcast getting involved.
Hey Zet
At least I get free Internets ^_________________________________________^
But yeah, a lot of the improvement can be done.
