That's the deal in Provo. I'm in Salt Lake and still waiting on them to finish installation of the fiber on my street before they'll give me an actual price.

No, there isn't. You pay a hefty install fee but get free internets.

Also I think it's higher than 5 these days. Although honestly the gigabit is just too damn awesome.

Comcast is using Atlanta, Nashville, & Tucson as test markets for a new 300 GB cap. If you want to use more, it's $10 per 50 gb.

This new cap shit is their answer to cable cutters. I really wonder how many gigs of data I do download a month... I don't stream anything, so it can't be that much. Do they include Uploads in that 300GB number?

That's something I've wondered for a long time. Verizon doesn't give me any figures or a way to track my actual usage. It's random numbers but to compare, my phone bill just started and I've already used up to 9.1gb so I'm curious what I do at home.

One estimate i saw is that 300 GB is equal to 230 hours of HD streaming or 500ish hours of standard definition streaming. I'm not sure how to figure gaming hours. Basically the plan punishes people who use netflix/amazon/Hulu etc.

Modern games play into it pretty heavily as well when a single game download can reach 40-50 GB.

I average around 400-500 GB a month, though Comcast isn't implementing caps in my area right now.

If you watch non-HD stuff, like I do.

Let's say it's peak good TV times, so I probably watch (skip through quickly in the case of shit like Iris on The Flash) I probably watch 20? shows a week.

Of those, probably 6 are 30m shows, the other 14 being 60m shows. Typical size for 480p is ~350Mb/700Mb which means in a month 47,600Mb of data purely from watching streaming TV on free sites. (That's 47.6Gb for you noobs out there)

You're looking at ~3Gb for an hour long show in HD, so if you watched the same TV I did but from firestick or some other shit, you'd be looking at ~204Gb from your TV watching.

Leaked Comcast training documents include language that the 300 GB limit is not a cap because they they'll keep giving overage charges. If customers inquire that the overage is because of "Net Neutrality, Netflix or observations about how XFINITY services are or are not counted relative to third party services," they will be immediately transferred to the Customer Security Assurance team.

Republicans are trying to kill Net Neutrality again and completely block the FCC from enforcing it. This time with a rider on the government budget omnibus.

If you want this to be upheld, it's pretty damn important now that either the Senate be forced into accepting an Obama appointment or Hillary wins in November.

At the end of this month, the US government will finally give up “control” of the internet.

In a quiet blogpost, Larry Strickling, the US government’s assistant secretary for communications and information announced that he had “informed ICANN…that…[the US government] intends to allow the IANA functions contract to expire as of October 1”.

That sentence may not mean a whole lot to many people, but this move is of huge global significance in how the internet is managed and governed.

ICANN is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a private non-profit organisation based on the west coast of the United States.

It’s not responsible for running the internet entirely, of course (no one is) but it’s an important – vital – part of the jigsaw. It’s responsible, in effect, for maintaining the internet. Without an organization like ICANN, and the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) function it undertakes, we wouldn’t have domain names and IP addresses.

The Wall Street Journal reports that AT&T has reached a deal to acquire Time Warner for more than $80 billion. News of the merger first surfaced on Friday, when Reuters and Bloomberg reported that the deal could top $85 billion. If successful, AT&T will gain control of huge entertainment and news brands including HBO, Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CNN, and resembles efforts by competing ISPs in recent years to create enormous media conglomerates.

Since one of Time Warner's holdings is DC Comics, the wireless company will also be acquiring Batman.
