Another thing that was a red flag was that we have a pole in our backyard that our current service comes in from, we had our DSL upgraded recently and they worked from the pole. This new provider came to survey our place and said they would have to dig to put in lines. Not sure why that would be when the other provider went right from the pole with no digging required.
The first company owns the pole/lines. Second ISP provider would have to pay to lease from the first company access and lay wire on the utility poles. That is why each region has a damn monopoly by 1 or 2 ISPs and it's so damn expensive for new companies to lay down infrastructure - can't share without leases, and any new projects requires a lot of review such as environmental impact or planning around existing utility poles/pipes. Can't go digging and hit a gas line for example.

Spot on. I work with the OSP and ISP engineers all the time ( Core Network engineer at Spectrum here ) and yeah...the amount of time to get a 288 count of fiber lashed or put into underground is just mind boggling. Hell, got a passive DWDM solution I am waiting on for 6 months so far because we are still trying to get some new fiber installed for it.

For kicks I thought I'd see how much data I've used over the last six weeks or so to see how bad my data usage has been. Hmm, per Comcast I only used 150GB data in March! Not really obviously. Looks like they turned off showing the customer how much they are using. I know it's tin foil hat stuff, but I'd bet a hot dog they skew data usage.

Next year, Comcast plans to charge home internet customers in northeastern US states for going over 1.2TB of data in a month — a cap that’s already in effect for customers on non-unlimited plans in other parts of the country.

In January and February, Comcast will give its Xfinity customers not on an unlimited plan a “credit” for any data usage charges over 1.2TB during those months to ease them into the new limits. Then, starting in March, non-unlimited customers who exceed 1.2TB in a month will be charged $10 per 50GB of data, for a maximum of $100.

Customers who go over the limit will get one “courtesy” credit per 12 months, so if you go over 1.2TB in March, you get a grace period for April. If you go over again in May, you’ll pay $10 for each block of 50GB up to the $100 max. Customers will be notified as they approach the 1.2TB threshold.

My last three months didn't break 400GB. Apparently the midwest has been under that 1.2TB data cap since July 1st.

Illinois used to be 1TB, but the generous IPs bumped it up to 1.2 due to COVID. I use a lot of data for work, but not nearly enough to breach 1.2, but I'm also in a home with one other internet user.

Ditched Comcast (for Metronet) out in the western Chicago burbs back in Feb. Half a gig (and only 50mb up) was $199 a month, with a data cap, until Metronet came in and lit up a couple towns. Magically Comcast can now get me a gig down for only $99 a month, sign up now! Haha...no.

Life is good, fuck those clowns. No data caps either.

I seem to top off at about 400gb a month out of my 1.2tb limit with Comcast. I mainly buy games physically, and the ps+ games I do play I space out on downloading.

Part of the reason I went with the disk drive ps5

We've had the 1.2tb limit in WA for awhile now (not sure when it started). I've only received 2 notices so far for reaching 75% of the limit. I think I'm around 6-700/month usually. Got the notice this month due to PS5 downloads. lol

Edit: I prefer physical as well, but Destiny 2, Genshin & misc updates were the majority of my downloads.

I have ATT fiber 1G with no cap. Over here in the NW Austin, TX area.

    1374G in July-Aug
    1166.47G in Aug-Sep

We use quite a bit since we only do streaming. I normally get free internet, cable and phone from Spectrum....but finally had to change my account to an out of footprint one since my new house is not in-footprint yet -.- it's me, my wife and son...and multiple times of the day all three of us are streaming at once.

First time I had to pay for internet in like...12 years !

New Orleans. Both ATT and Cox offer gigabit internet at my place.

It was primarily going thru and replacing every single TV show and movie I have on my server with higher quality versions. Outside of getting some 4k/HDR movies to along with the 1080p versions I've already got I'm basically done though, just adding new stuff as it comes out now. I'm at like 1.2 GB this month but the majority of that was loading up my new Xbox with a bunch of Gamepass shit.
