wtf, had no idea re: gloves and fingernails

I'll worry about reproducing when on the other side of 30. I don't know about circumcision. Shit is stupid, I agree, but also is meaningless, a snippet of foreskin or not. It's not like it's Somalia and vaginas. Maybe I can just have all GURLZ and not have to decide. :l

And I'm going to be snowboarding at 60 with my 20-something kids, bitches. Damn straight.
Cute kids and shit, good job BG moms.

Brilliant! We just bought the sleepers with long sleeves that fold over at the end like a sandwich bag. Only had to do it for about 2-3 months with each kid until they developed enough motor skills to not gouge out their own eyes.

As far as the 2-year-old, we just put snaps (you can buy them at any craft store) on the hem of the gloves and coat sleeves. They couldn't unsnap them once they were secured and they never thought to take off their coat instead. Except Lucas...Lucas defied everything we tried. He still does and he's 8. The boy is going to be an attorney with his Vulcan-like logic and impeccable memory. If only we could get him to apply that memory to positive things instead of the time we took his tablet away and how unfair that was...

Anyways, sorry for the random derail rambling. How is the new boy doing after a week?

Naw, I like this! Snaps are a good idea actually. I live in socal so no need for gloves normally, BUT before I had gotten preggo I had originally planned on taking my daughter to the mountains to play in the snow over the winter. Putting it off until next year, so I will definitely try that when I do.

So far so good! He actually slept in the cosleeper we bought a few times last night. I cobedded with my daughter and I hated it (well that's a lie, I fucking loved it, but was in a constant panic I'd suffocate her, so wanted to try the cosleeper this time around). First few nights I couldn't get him to sleep in it so he ended up just sleeping on my chest. Last night he went in there twice without issue, so progress!

At xmas time we signed up for JC Penny's portrait membership which gave us a $50 coupon, so yesterday we went out and did the nakie newborn photo thing. Got my daughter some pics too and boy did she ham it up. I'll post some probably today once it's up on the website to view.

Btw, after reading some mommy forums I a. feel soooooooooooooo spoiled with hubby on paternity leave. FUCK YA. b. Am soooo thankful for my daughter. She seems to be doing awesome with the newborn compared to the horror stories I've read.

ya, I am always shocked how judgemental moms are. At the same time, how innocent they can be (young moms I am assuming).

But they are sometimes nice for venting/support when you feel overwhelmed.

    Seconding the cute kids

My daughter is 9, and as of a couple years ago, I gave her the choice for her birthday each year of doing something small with a bunch of kids or doing something cool with 1 or 2 friends. At the time I envisioned skydiving with her and her bff for her 13th birthday or something. Turns out you have to be 18, but you get the idea.

I hate that parenting is like the worst thing you can try to tell someone they're doing wrong. My sister acts like she's the first woman to have ever been pregnant, given birth, and raise a child. She treats everyone else's experiences as if they're just theories.

We have too many friends with young kids now who are doing all this helicopter/attachment parenting - just letting the kids run the show.

Pro-tip - your two year old absolutely does NOT know what is best. That's why they have parents. If you don't want to say no to your children, please don't have children.

Co-sleeping with a 6 month old, breastfeeding a two year old...it's just insanity. It's like people set out to destroy their marriages and lives from the get-go, as if they are only doing a great job if they are suffering, like not sleeping through a night for years is a badge of honor.

That reminds me Archi. Where is my badge of honor for going 6 years without a full night's sleep? Lucas went just over 6 years without sleeping through the night and had to wake us both up whenever he woke up. Years of doctor's visits, sleep studies, melatonin and whatever else we tried never worked. I guess we should have just read a few posts from the mommy forums and our problems would have magically disappeared.

Don't tell the helicopter parents that their child doesn't know best. You will learn just how mean an angry mom can be when you question her parenting abilities.

And just wait until your 6-month-old won't sleep and you have been up for 36 hours. You will do whatever it takes to get them to sleep, including co-sleeping.
Breastfeeding is good for infants but not enough to sustain the needs of a 9-month-old. It just gets weird after a year when they start talking and identifying body parts. We have a neighbor with a 3-year-old, almost 4 actually, that still breastfeeds. It is incredibly awkward when he comes and asks for "feed" while she is sitting on our couch visiting and she just lifts her shirt up while he stands there sucking.....

Ha! When that baby is born, you can forget about any pleasure to be had from the breasts. Those things are nothing more than very sore milk dispensers and, to be safe, you better not even think about sex for at least the first 3 months.

I breastfed both of my kids for a year, nursing was a supplement for solid foods starting at 6 months though. I did have to cosleep with my youngest son, he would scream bloody murder if you put him in the crib for the first six months. I was in college so it got to the point where I was lying on my side with the boob out and when he woke up he could just eat at his own pace, lol. Trying to go to school with a newborn is not something I would like to repeat.

I don't bother giving parenting advice anymore unless it's asked for.

The funny thing is, the people that are actually qualified and have good advice do not give it out and do not judge other parents near as harshly. It's the "I have a niece/nephew, I know my shit" non-parents that seem to know the most about everything you are doing wrong.

My wife did the same thing with breastfeeding in bed that you did. It worked well and eventually they just stopped waking up to eat after a few months of letting them sleep in their bed for the first 3-4 hours then transferring to our bed until they were full and back asleep. 4/5 of our kids slept through the night almost every night after 4 months.

On another note, I just realized that we have had at least one child in diapers for the last 13 years, minus 1.5 years between our youngest 2. I wonder how much money we have spent on diapers, formula and baby food.

I should have said parents but ya...you just wait archi. 6 months is really not that insane.

I can't remember how long I co-slept with my daughter but it basically came down whenever my daughter slept through the night.

I actually ended up with a system that worked out fairly well transitioning to the crib without even planning on it being a system.

First time she fell asleep at nighttime we put her in the crib (so fucking hard to do fyi, as any little twitch would wake her up while placing her in there). Then, when she woke up I would bring her into the bed for the rest of the night to co-sleep.

Overtime she would do that first sleep in the crib longer and longer and eventually slept through the night so I no longer brought her into the bed, but I can't remember if that was like 6 months or 8 or w/e.

Now, if your wifey can do crib sleeping from the get-go, great! More power to you. It's safer that way. But if you think you get more sleep? rofl. You actually get more sleep co-sleeping which is why so many parents break down and do it that way. Because they're tired as shit.

I felt I had to do it that way because I kept falling asleep in the rocking chair while feeding her, and was afraid I'd drop her at some point.

Oh and I bf my daughter for a year and still managed to get preggo for the second one so...no that doesn't ruin your sex life.

If you can't have sex while having a bfing wife the issue isn't the bf..it's you.

[edit] guess ace did the same thing as I did with the crib/co-sleeping. internethighfive.jpg

My kids were such opposites. First one was easy. Woke up exactly on schedule, slept wherever you put him, breastfed happily, barely cried really. He was so on schedule it was ridiculous, it was every 3 hours at first, 9, 12, 3, 6, 9, etc. My second son wouldn't do the crib, had to be rocked to sleep (screaming in my face the whole time), always wanted to look around while nursing (which led to a LOT of painful nipple moments), slept one hour then five with no rhyme or reason, total nightmare child basically.

They're 18 months apart and I can't believe that two kids with the same parents and so close in age could be so fucking different from each other.

I feel lucky reading through these posts lol. Audrey is 2 months and she sleeps in her bassinet just fine. She sleeps about 3 hours at a time, and when she wakes up she just kind of grunts to let me know she is awake. I feed her for 15 minutes and she goes right back to sleep. She's perfectly fine sitting in her bouncy seat/laying in her play mat/laying in her bassinet all by herself. She fell asleep in her bassinet by herself for the first time just a few days ago, so we're going to be laying her in there when she's still awake from now on. Last night, she was pretty sleepy when we put her down, and then she startled herself awake, started crying...and I held her for a while then put her back down and it was fine. Crossing my fingers that this is a sign of more good things to come.

My sister in law is co-sleeping (holding the baby all night long). I am too afraid to do this as I do not want to have to break that habit later...no matter how tired I am, I still get up and put her back in her bassinet after she falls asleep. I still let her nap while sleeping on me sometimes though. I think I'll miss that so much when she gets too big to do it.

Ya, I still miss getting to sleep with my daughter sometimes...she has turned into a nightmare sleeper.

Few times she has woken up from a bad dream we've put her in the bed with us...she spent the whole night kicking the crap out of my husband rofl.

also, that's great dbz! My daughter (and so far my son) are good sleepers...as long as you are next to them hahahaha.

iirc my daughter's initial sleep pattern was 4-2-2-2 during the night. Oh god those 4 hours were so nice....so nice.

    Baby boy is on the 2-2-2-2 @.@;

I have only gotten 4+ consecutive hours of sleep 2-3 times since she was born. I have no idea how we function doing this. Before, I could easily sleep my face off for 12 hours straight.
