lol, I always laugh when people tell shitty melee to level support jobs. So they can shit up an even more important job? Support is the backbone of any party, with shit support you're even more screwed

Its harder to fuck up support than it is to fuck up DD. A poorly geared support can still cast Marches and Minuets. A poorly geared DD is slowing up the lunch line.
Of course, some people are just so inept, they fuck up support jobs too.
yea generally people who are bad at dps wouldnt understand simple concepts like reapplying buffs before they wear, never mind without being asked.
The problem is shitty players are generally shitty because they play like with the exclusion of walking around and engaging mobs (and sometimes even then) all there actions are on some kind of 30 second+ global reuse timer similar to autos and there spells lol. Seriously I've been told that as a DD I should feel lucky if I get buffs by not only the buffers but the ls leadership before and asking for haste every 3 minutes is just too hard for the poor mages
DD jobs are braindead easy, if someone can fail at that, there's no way they're going to wrap their head around a mage/support job which is innately more complex. It's more damaging to a group that a WHM runs out of MP after 3 casts, doesn't buff anyone or remove debuffs, and casts at a snail's pace, than a MNK doing less damage/taking more damage. Melees are usually only responsible for themselves, a single support job can be responsible for an entire party, so telling someone who can't even grasp a simple DD job to play an even more complex job is just asking for disaster
Were talking about gear, and you're going off on player skill...
it doesnt matter if this dude behind the screen is the badassest mother fucker, if he's rolling ilvl106 in ilvl130 content, he's going to play like shit. Whereas the bard rolling in ilvl106 gear can still buff melee's and stuff.
A skilled DD wouldn't roll full ilvl 106 gear to an ilvl 130 event in the first place though.... that'd be on par to a brd "forgetting" to bring any instruments
someone who came back from a year long break and doesnt have sparks for eminent stuff...whatever. My point is, when player skill/intelligence and gear are equal, the support job is less dependable on gear.
My point wasn't that a skilled player wouldn't have gear but that a skilled player wouldn't come horrendously undergeared for an event. They'd do easier stuff they could actually accomplish to gear up. Can't really say someone is skilled and they say they will come to an event knowing they are jist leeching when the group needs a contributing member
Holy shit can you quit nitpicking. Seriously.
Answer this question:
When accounting for high player skill and average gear, it is more favorable to play a support job instead of a DD job?
What would you rather? A DD who parses 70% accuracy with a decent WS average, but uses TP at 100%, uses buffs when available, uses food. Maybe BRD who knows how to keep songs up and helps with status removal, but lacks a Durdur and Gjalla so their Marches and Minuet's arent as good.
Or you can have a DD who parses 95% accuracy, whos WS average is slightly higher, but doesnt pay attention to their TP, doesnt use any buffs, doesnt gearswap or use food. Or a bard who has gjalla/durdur, but he's so stupid he gives two gjalla marches, and then two durdur minuets, is too much of a princess to help with status removal, doesnt bother casting elegy, and waits till all songs have dropped before recasting?
You can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink. Same thing, you can upgrade someones gear, but if they're an idiot, they'll just be an idiot with Oats.
Did people figure out a way not to be death'ed by tidal guillotine or is it still entirely luck based?
barwater, MDT gear, cap off HP. Its widely believed to be like Tyannic Tusk, but water damage.
If Tidal Guillotine does more than 50% of your... ?current? HP it will kill you. Ergo, damage taken/defense gear. It's not hard to swap when you see it being readied.
Neat, thanks. Always hated that move as much as I hated Mayhem back then.
Ive been 1shot by tidal with capped hp and 40% pdt.
I'm not sure if it's magical or hybrid (So read my previous post saying defense as a vague defense/magic defense). It was never really a very dangerous move for my group when we were running him. Either way, 50% DT doesn't guarantee he doesn't hit you for more than half your current hp. If you're a monk it's more likely to survive ofc with higher max hp, but if you're on something that's more of a glass cannon I wouldn't be shocked if he floors you from cap on occasion.
