    Fervor Ring Testing

I know all of jack shit about summoner math, but I went out to test Fervor Ring today and it looks like Avatars have a base MAB of 44. I had heard 20 MAB thrown around in the past, but that seems to be incorrect.

This means that, with very basic MAB gear (no augments), level 90 Nirvana is a ~20% damage boost to magical blood pacts. Not exactly the godslayer people make it out to be, in my opinion. That's less than a level 51 staff bonus of damage increase.

Weird, @ 75 they had 32 MAB, same as a BLM. Wonder why it's different now.

Turns out my numbers also work with 1.46, which would be BLM trait + 10 MAB from affinity merits. So they're maybe keeping them equal to a meritted BLM?

They have MAB 40 at 95, which continues to match a BLM of the same level.

(1194 naked, 1233 with soulscourge which is 1.50->1.55 counting 10 avatar MAB merits.)

Those numbers also work fine with 50 MAB base, which is BLM level 95 trait (40 MAB) + 10 MAB from Affinity merits again.

    1194/1.5 = 796
    floor(796*1.55) = 1233

That's my bet. They're just doing BLM Trait level + 10 MAB from Affinity merits. The real question is when SMN gets this arbitrary MAB bonus. It'd be easiest to determine this inside Abyssea where we can use Atma to pump up Avatar MAB and get better resolution though.

Seems to kick in @75. Water IV jumps from 607 @74 to 660 @75 which is *way* too big an increase to account for by base stats alone.

    Base damage of 460 @ 74 with MAB 32 and 465 @ 75 with MAB 42 works.

Don't know when they added that though, it certainly didn't exist at the time Group II merits were introduced.

BLM's MAB4 trait is level 75, so you're actually looking at:
    607/1.28 = 474 base damage
    660/1.32 = 500 base damage? noooo
    660/1.42 = 464 base damage? also noooo

I don't know. Maybe it comes in stages?

MAB IV is level 70. 10/30/50/70.

When I tested this a while ago, I used Diabolos (Since Nether Blast is fixed damage, doesn't increase /w tp, etc...). I found that Avatars just had BLM's MAB trait. Kinda weird that the IV trait wasn't until 75. Makes me wonder if Avatars are actually lower leveled NPCs /w BLM main, or if it's some innate trait they gain as the SMN levels up? Is there an easy way to test Avatar level. (Aside from a multiple of 5 thing, since gaining a 70 trait at 75 kinda makes that hard to test!)

Naw, I was wrong about Avatars getting MAB4 at 75. They always do the same damage on stuff, so they're a constant level.

I more meant their level vs the summoner's level. Is there a way to tell what level the avatars are, to see if they're always the same as the summoner's lvl, or if there's some kind of difference?

Find the HP of a level 1 summoner's Carbuncle, then find the HP of a level 2 summoner's Carbuncle? We know that the level of the avatar isn't higher than the summoner, because that would have messed up xp calculations like charming a T pet, I think.

I don't think that would work since you can be Lv1 and have mobs that are decent challenge (Lv0 or Lv-1). I have the feeling Avatars might be lower level than the SMN or possibly even a level difference between avatars (like Carbuncle vs Ifrit or even Fenrir.)

They still do have BLM's MAB trait. They just also have the Group 1 merits of a BLM, for their respective element, at least. (Not sure if there's a way to make an avatar do another element's damage.)

Is there an atma that grants spikes?

I'm also fairly sure that non-BST pet level simply = the master's level. If pets don't work differently you could test it by finding the point at which a monster's cRatio dropped below 1.0, and using pet defense gear + attack down stuff on the monster.

(For players, if a monster is higher level than them, cRatio has a ceiling at 1.0)

I'm confused at what you mean by having the Group1 merits of a BLM? I know SMNs can add MAB through Group 1 merits, is that you're saying?

I think Shiva lets you do ice spikes only?

Avatar damage is so weird, it'd be hard to see cRatio dropping. I think I'll muse about the problem for a bit, maybe I can figure out some way to test it for sure. I'm probably wrong, and all avatars match their summoner's level.

Ahahahaha, I have full MAB merits. There we go.
