Aw I sooo kneeeew that would be brought up, should've done an ib4.

Product warning labels are not quite equivalent to internet advice and information. But hey, sure, let's pretend that we're one case away from a completely censored internet where only 100% verifiable facts can be posted, less we not mislead people to do or think wrong/stupid things.

BG Doctors go. Wife's legs are light blue

Seriously though, in all of those troll advice memes, pictures, infographics and threads from 4Chan and reddit and the like where people are seriously injured or hurt themselves (ammonia+bleach=win) or destroy their property (lol water proof OS update for iPhone).... Has even one of those ever lead to someone successfully suing for damages/reimbursement?

    Serious question.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I mean, I haven't even heard of anyone successfully being sued when kids commit suicide because of the internet.

    Basically:

So this is what people mean when they say plow's gonna plow.

For everyone else who just might not know, though, this case is probably the worst example of a frivolous lawsuit you can use, since it... wasn't.

I like the idea of a script that edits every post to "Go see a doctor!" in any thread tagged with the BG Medical tag.

Why burn yourself with coffee for a lawsuit when you can do it with a burning pickle?

For those who don't know the story:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebeck...;s_Restaurants

tl;dr: Lady sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car spills 180F coffee in her lap, which causes 3rd degree burns requiring hospitalization and skin grafts, then sues McDonalds for medical and legal costs.

I posted the picture that convinced a lot of people here of that, unfortunately people don't seem to realize that it was still pretty much entirely her fault.

Also she sued for 160k in costs and 2.7 million in punitive.

Further, the point is not how valid it is or isn't, it's the idea that "oh that sounds ridiculous it'll never happen."

Who knows, maybe one day the time will come where some poor soul tricked into the wrong/bad internet advice will successfully seek restitution.

But it seems that hasn't happened yet, anywhere? Despite some pretty extreme cases?

Seems BG medical will survive, even without every other post reminding them to go to an actual doctor.

So what you're saying is that there is no reasonable expectation of safety when it comes to purchasing from a company a product which is intended for ingestion?

exactly what extreme cases are you referring to?

beyond the fact that 4chan is constantly bombarded by child porn and manages to avoid any trouble for that by being anonymous, in order for someone to sue over taking the advice of someone that told them to huff ammonia and chlorine, someone would have to actually take that advice and suffer damages from it

nobody changed their coffee temperatures, and at least one judge has declared that the temperature they use is fine (in a decision involving a particular home coffee maker)

and no, you don't have a reasonable expectation of not fucking yourself up when you spill an entire cup of coffee directly into your crotch

All they'd get in the settlement is a BG t-shirt and hat. Maybe a custom title. If they really pushed it.

oh and btw, according to mcdonald's that case only got anywhere because their insurance company used a shitty lawyer

and judging by the fact that starbucks, which serves their shit hotter, had a case thrown out where the spill was caused by a loose lid and wobbly tables, I'm gonna go out on a limb and surmise that they were right

Maybe it is because I dislike scaldingly-hot beverages, but I don't understand the need to serve drinks at a temperature which will cause immediate tissue damage. Perhaps you can explain the allure to me.

    http://www.norrislaw.net/lawyer-attorney-1780193.html

Also this is...THE FUCKING INTERNET..and A FORUM. There's no way anyone is going to sue over advice given on a public forum that was built around FFXI, unless the advice is on what NM is the best to camp..and if you give the wrong info there then yeah, legal action should be taken.

4chan trolls the shit out of real/imaginary people all the time with advice (Triforce springs to mind and always makes me laugh), but you could even give shit advice in youtube comments, or at Yahoo answers or anywhere.

You can't sue people for advice you didn't pay for, especially when the advice is so fucking broad. No one here said "yes, and also get a risky procedure done, and tell the doctor you want it done no matter what!...also I have been a doctor for 20yrs and my name and address are xxx"

Would a lawyer take it up? Probably, I mean there are tons of lawyers who would do anything for some more cash to feed their meth addictions. Would a judge oversee it? Not really, unless you were suing Cream Soda and we were in Texas. (Texas is racist haha get it)
