I mean, honestly, from a superficial perspective, this was a troll movie
I kinda zoned out towards the last 40-50mins of the movie. I liked the meta 4th way bullshit in it but I honestly felt bored with it overral. The smith actor is a 50/50 of he's alright and rest meh.
Something about "Tom" just ruins it. How you going to get rid of one of the key things of Smith and his "Misttttttterrrr Andersonnnnn" remarks. I liked his energy and mannerisms otherwise.
There was plenty to question in the movie, but overall, I think I'd edge on the side of surprised over disappointed. There was more thought and reasoning to the plot than I assumed there would be going into it. Gotta give Film Theory credit for pretty much getting everything right ahead of time, except it was a game instead of a movie. I'll watch sequels (if there are?) cause I'm invested in the series/lore enough to see it through, but my expectations will be kept in the middle ground for sure.
Spoiler: show
like i said, this shit was trash
Spoiler: show
Somebody must be paying critics to keep this positive, but just barely. The regular people's reviews are dropping like a rock lol.

#TheMatrixResurrections grossed a mere $2.7M on FRI, taking its total to $13.2M in 3 days. Heading for just $23M 5-days weekend. Full run mostly sub-$60M.
15/17 Warner Bros. 2021 releases will be under $75M. Unreal.Looks like the movie has bombed in box office.$4.5M SAT for #TheMatrixResurrections . Total $17.7M yada yada $22M 5-days yada yada Disaster.
I mean thats what you get for coming in after the most hyped marvel movie since Endgame. Also they didn't market it very well. A LOT of my friends had no idea it was happening
Not to mention the whole being on HBO Max thing. Like this is a movie I watch on my couch
Pretty sure a lot of people didn't want to go to packed theaters with a contagious variant floating around. Still haven't seen Spider Man because of this shit.
Not wanting to catch a super contagious virus sure didn't stop people from seeing Spider-Man based on the box office numbers so far.
Bad movie + HBO MAX (which also means it's fully available to pirate)
I personally don't feel that a 20 years late sequel to a franchise whose previous sequels were already not that amazing really had the box office draw of a new Spider-Man movie that was rumored to involve other versions of Spider-Man. For me at least this was always "eh I guess I'll watch this at some point out of morbid curiosity" and never any sort of genuine "oh thank fuck a new Matrix I can't wait, I'll definitely literally risk my life to see it in theaters"
R rated films opening over Christmas weekend typically don’t do that great right? Irregardless of COVID or Spider-Man’s coattails
