Like is it an entertaining pop-corn flick that kinda tickles your nostalgia bone, especially if you really loved the originals? I mean sure I could see that in a "Turn off your brain, oooh, pretty lights!" kind of way, but beyond that the movie just was not great. Probably wont rewatch it ever.
The machine civil war made no sense to me. In Revolutions, Neo says to the Architect that they (the machines) won't let all of humanity die if he chooses not to return to the Source, that they need human beings to survive, to which the Architect replies "There are levels of survival we are willing to accept". So, they are an intelligent race, and have thought about and accepted that should all humans die, they will be ready to survive on a lower level of existence. But should their power plants suffer a 1% power drop (Going by what the Architect said, that 99% of test subjects accepted the Matrix and wouldn't want to leave) All of the sudden there is a massive civil war?

This movie was a mess, with a few decent ideas laced through it.

Expectations vs reality for Robots? Idk lol, if they are an intelligent race, I.E not just a hive mind, chances are among them are different opinions on how to move forward and thus the potential for conflict. But, and this is a strong but, I know very little of the Matrix "Lore"/ Extended universe so I have nothing to back my arguments.

Maybe some of the machines and programs weren't as ready to accept it.

Fun movie but yeah, lacking in a lot.

No one died? wtf come on. Was expecting at least Bugs to take one for the team to get Trinity back. Force push way overused, Keanu is old for sure but he's still rocking shit in John Wick so it's not like he can't do some fun action scenes. Morpheus had agent programming in this one....why wasn't he holding his own against Smith for a bit? Smith was a let down, wanted Hugo to pop up at the very end or something.

I liked the movie. It's good if you're a sucker for happy endings and didnt like how Matrix 3 ended. I loved the meta aspects of the first 40 minutes. It wrinkled my brain in a way I didnt think they'd be able to do in 2021.

One thing that did irk me though, was Im not sure what the films messaging on therapy was? It seemed almost scientology status the way therapy and psych meds are portrayed

There was no messaging. It was a means to an end.

So guessing if I didn't watch 1-2-3 for a long time and don't fully remember the movies I should rewatch them before IV?

Just watch the original and move on with life, not worth rewatching 2 shitty movies to get you prepped for another shitty movie

This movie is not remotely close to that effort level.

Reminded me of some of the machines in Nier Automata who disconnected themselves from the hive mind. They eventually developed concepts like family, love, and fear.

At least that's the way I envisioned the machine civil war while watching this movie.

Bots all over instagram too, all saying similar things and using trash icon, all similar profiles. Who pays to activelt disparage and hurt a movies bottom line? So weird lol. I get people may have disliked it, but its pretty obvious bots...

This isn't unique to Matrix though, this happens with every bigger media release. That's how Internet works nowadays and there's nothing you can do but accept it.

Cant say ive seen it like this before and Im constantly connected to the internet. Certainly havent seen it for Spiderman. I have my suspicions its related to the director. Just really odd. Tin foil hat moment but ever since 2016 elections I've noticed tons and tons of bots on social media platforms trying to mass influence opinions, but most of them are pretty obvious. Just really odd they would choose this movie of all that recently release.

If it was they wouldnt need bots to influence anyone, they are quite obvious too, I posted a screenshot a few pages ago. Just a weird observation thats been puzzling me, nothing about the movies reviews which arent terrible.
