I'm not a huge comic book buff but something along the lines of he is dead and there is a crew of people continuing to live for the moment carrying his torch in the destruction of the weapon x program.

They turned him into an adamantium statue after he lost his healing factor. The team of Wolverines running around right now are Mystique, Sabretooth(who was neutered basically during AXIS and is now mostly a good guy), X-23(female Wolverine clone), Daken(his son), Lady Deathstrike, and a couple of new characters created by a Weapon X like program. They mostly been getting into fights with Sinister really.

Honestly though everything from Marvel over the last year has me convinced that the comics and everything else Marvel now serve the movies not the other way around.
