on the boss whm nukeing wont remove the aura if the boss is anal about letting melees sc. as said on pre nms a cor would be enough for the magic dmg parts. had runs where boss aura was np and then had some where aura fucked melees over and the fight was 3or4 times as usual, the nuker eliminates that factor of annoyance.
Pretty sure the difference between 3.5k Ravenous Wails and 1-2k Ravenous Wails is.... drum roll.... Schrezo!
At least it worked for us, I've read posts where people say it doesn't. Do note though, it can spam a TP move which dispel A LOT OF SHIT (including Schrezo), so it's up to the PLD and the BRD to tell people to stop feeding TP when it uses it and Schrezo is on recast. It's quite possible that sometimes people miss the Dispel and go OMG SCHREZO USELESS PIECE OF SHIT. If you can I would like to see a screenshot of Ravenous Wail doing more than 2.5k with Schrezo on and proper DT gear.
I've never died on SAM with -DT and Scherzo up on Harpy. Anytime I didn't notice that Scherzo was dispelled I would get face planted on the next TP move no matter what.
Thing dies in 45 seconds with SAM SP2 and multi-step light SC, but that obviously wasn't what SE had in mind as a gimmick. Any type of melee setup seems like it would be impossible or take an obscene amount of time with constant rebuffing and dying w/o some sort gimmick to limit its damage, so there must be a gimmick for it that we don't know about yet.
If you don't mind posting, what do you use as your DT set on SAM? I still take too much damage most of the time and I figured I had the best stuff without swapping silly things like mekira body. the Ravenous wail(or whatever the breath based dmg attack is called) still does obscene dmg to me with scherzo and as much -BDT/DT as I can besides non ilvl gear.

I'm pretty sure something just causes the max damage it can do to go way up, because I use nearly the exact same gear and have experienced much higher damage with scherzo on and locking all of the DT/BDT pieces.
Not trying to beat a dead horse, but a screenshot or logs would really help out in this situation here. Like I said to the previous guy who said "Scherzo does nothing for its F U moves," for all the runs I've done it contradicts that statement. In the heat of the moment it's easy to overlook Schrezo being dispelled imo, especially if you're not staring at the status bar or have the proper chat filtering.
I went through my logs, and I've eaten 3k Wails without having Scherzo having worn off. A bunch of other people have backed this claim up as well.
Well it might just be one of those things that someone some day will find out the reason behind, but for now it's a mystery!
Wouldn't surprise me if SE release something shocking a few months or a year down the road regarding its mechanic.
Last thing I could think of is maybe you ate it when gearswapping? Personally on PLD the only situation I swap gear is precast, JA, and WS because they're near instant. Other situations like midcast has a significant window where you are vulnerable, so I keep DT stuff on.
I am as lost as you are, but the PLD in my LS just sticks to what works for us. Sorry can't provide more feedback =/
On stuff with immediate 1shot potential, I lock my DT gear. Cashing flash 3 seconds faster isnt worth potentially dying.
Ircinraq has some kind of innate MEVA+ buff on it. Distract II always has no effect no matter when you cast it (and no, there were no other red mages in the group).

Been noticing the same thing, as SAM BRD WHM RDM. It has no effect, which means it has innate MEVA+ or MEVA-. Bit of a pain, really!
Recent damage or something definitely affects Wail's damage. This is a Ravenous Wail while I was holding it on Red Mage, and no one was damaging it. No Stoneskin, only Phalanx.
