Could that be why sam's doing 6 step seem to never die to it, since theres always a steady stream of phys and magical?

    Yes.

Well, I assert that this is why a PLD pairwise spamming Knights of Round or Chant du Cygne to create Light skillchains intermittently checkered with Sanguine Blades for magic damage and recovery takes peanuts (under 50 DMG) from it.

    I know because that's how I solo'd it. ^^

Did fullclear Marjami recently with RNG SAM THF as DD. One wall blew our THF into oblivion with 2800 damage. The same wall hit the SAM for about 400 and my SCH in -DT gear for nothing noteworthy. I have no explanation. No Scherzo was use

Wail is breath damage and wind-aligned as shown by Sechs' RUN experiences. Did the SAM have BDT gear on? Defending ring? Scuffler's Cosciales? Baraero? I'll bet anything the Ravenous Wail that did that came after a Shrieking Gale that dispelled the THF's Baraero or something like that. Should have asked both belligerents what they were wearing and what their status effects were at the time.

Also Tyche, the SAM you are describing sounds like Gblazed, since melee Marjami is something he's done a lot in the past. If that's the case (all three of us are on Bahamut, so it's not a horrifically far-fetched conjecture) then I am not surprised he lived since has good DT sets and has a habit of switching to them during times when enemies have access to highly damaging moves.

Nop not Gblazed just our LS SAM. No -DT sets on him. No baraero used.

Other breath damage moves have a "damage varies with angle" thing. You can easily test this out on Wyrms because they don't turn to face you, stand right in front of them and Dragon breath will do much more damage than if you stand on their feet.

Maybe Ravenous Wail has the same thing? Were you all at the same angle from the mob?

Definetly not. We were all spread around it.

As for Meva - normal 119 gear. Mix of Xaddi, AF/Rellic and Delve.

It doesn't. "Breath damage" is a poor name for this damage type as it's also frequently the damage form SE uses for damage that they don't want to classify as physical or magical. Hence the reason that Spirits Within and Atonement are breath damage. I personally classify all damage types into one of four groups: physical, magical, breath, and special. To avoid disseminating potentially misleading or false information, I will only continue this discussion with the permission from a BG senior (e.g. Byrth, Tachi, or someone of similar merit).

I have two explanations for what may have happened. Both are likely, but I'd need a mage buddy to perform thorough testing; however, since Seph has very few friends on nuking jobs, that's not likely.

First explanation is simple. M.EVA occurred and Tyche's SAM buddy lived.

Second is that my wail theory needs one more specification. That is, that the counts of physical and magical damage that are compared to produce a ratio are attributed to individual players based on whom the enmity of each attack is attributed to. This damage is then dealt individually to those caught in range of Ravenous Wail each time the move is used, to each belligerent according to his or her specific accrued ratio of physical to magical damage. As a result, this why PLD's stand to get hosed by Ravenous Wail on the PLD-RNGx3 setup, because the enmity from each shot is attributed towards the PLD courtesy of Decoy Shot.

Again, I'd need a volunteer to test with me. Don't all jump up at once now.

If it is non physical outside a few special dmgs (like discord) it can resist so while that might not have been the case there would be no way for us to currently know if it was. Seems as reasonable an answer was any. In the end some got lucky

I've started experimenting with Kamihr Drifts boss rushes now. First thing I've noticed is that Azeman's light damage threshold for his temporary DT is pretty darn low. A single lunge from a /RUN can take it down. Also, it is totally NOT necessary to have a GEO silence him. SCH can do it repeatedly just fine so long as they have plenty of M.ACC and/or enfeebling skill. The real danger is Cacophony which gives him the enhanced counter rate and Hundred Fists. The boar is a nuisance. I'm trying to ascertain if I should just tell all DD's to plug through it or turn when they see the dust cloud and their next few hits deal damage greater than zero but less than ten. I can confirm the earlier suspicion that inflicted hits of the resisted type makes him do Zealous Snort. He also seems to like to use Zealous Snort with the free TP granted from the area's "dreadful energy" effect, regardless of resisted damage.

It's a fracture that I'm debating the usefulness of seventh-slot PLD on. I say this because there are a lot of adds that are prime candidates for sac-pulling and because if you shove your PLD on /WHM, you can make him Stona people on T4 to relieve the pressure on the WHM who will already be taxed trying to keep Max HP Down off the melees. Furthermore, Sanguine works as a quick spike for the magic phase on the ram.

Regardless, despite being a PLD main, I'd be better off SCH'ing for Kamihr since I have a habit of attracting mages to my runs who have extreme difficulties keeping the Azeman silenced.

surprised that's still a thing, azeman proc is caused by a critical hit not light damage

the nm has a built in critical resistance like mul but much more potent(not 100%, but i'd wager it's well over 99% since it took 20 min to crit it on rng when the zones first came out), so lunge or sneak attack is the way to go

Yet Lunge with Lux runes is light damage. Also, not only does the wiki say that it's light damage or criticals but I confirmed this with members from the leading shell on Bahamut (Enigma) that light damage, a forced critical, or Stutter Step brings it down.

I went to the outside NM to test this for myself, but I couldn't get the resistant state to come up. Someone in this thread said it was linked to Cacophony, which I think might be true since I see it most commonly shortly after Cacophony. Incidentally, Cacophony was never used throughout the whole test fight (I also obviously couldn't silence the NM on PLD), so I almost wonder if silencing the NM and then allowing to un-silence grants access to Cacophany. I don't think that's likely though. It's more likely that the NM just gains access to it below a certain HP percentage while it isn't silenced and I'll just need to try harder next time to push the damage through Plenilune Embraces.

Either that, or twist the arm of an RDM from to come with me.

20 min of shitty banishes with languor-focus didn't take it down, one crit did, didn't record numbers since it was near the start but i'm sure total netted much higher than one lunge so any potential light condition would need to be based on single action damage

stutter step and lux probably just share some quality of crits internally

cacophany does trigger the DT state, don't think there's any special cause(seen it as first tp move) but it's entirely possible since I've never tried not silencing it

Silencing the NM prevents Cacophony, Call of the Moon, and Plenilune Embrace as far as I've seen. I do recall dropping it before with a 3000 TP Seraph Blade (post adjustment Seraph Blade deals like 2000 DMG on the NM with an MAB set). If DT is solely a product of Cacophony, then the important thing is making sure that your designated silencer is on the ball.

Silence only prevent Plenilune Embrace. Things that procs him after Cacophony includes but are not exclusive: lunge, light skill chains, trueflight (and perhaps other light based WS). never seen any of the mentioned fail, always 1/1 proc.

I'll check it again when I drag my RDM buddy along.

As far as the azure stagger mechanism goes, it almost makes you wonder what the correlation is between these things like light-based weapon skills and Stutter Step such that Azeman is somehow related to them. Check this out:

    http://www.mythicalcreatureslist.com...reature/Azeman

So, looking at what we know, Azeman's light weakness is to be expected. Maybe he can't count steps and that's why Stutter Step works? Someone should test Steal on him and see if that works.

It's always possibly that stutter step (Either the step itself or the meva down debuff or both) is light based. The icon is white after all

Box and Stutter Step count as critical hits for killing Chigoes.
