Theo looks like a goddamn mastermind right now. I can't believe he got value out of those guys he sent to Atlanta, and the catcher they got has been tearing it up. Not to mention the hilarity of getting value out of Hammel, and even Shark doesn't look as good over in Oakland. Cubs are ready to fuckin roll soon.

Also the Nats got Asdrubal Cabrera from the Indians. Decent pickup and Rendon/Desmond/Cabrera is a pretty good infield both offensively and defensively. Too bad Zim Zam's hammy is flim flammed or else they'd be pretty nasty.

Would rather he keep the four players on the roster with any value than trade for organizational filler. Byrd is probably getting traded through waivers this month anyway at least.

I dunno... feel strongly that down the stretch bats were a bigger need than pitching for them.

In the long run, it's good to get Cespedes' silly contract off the books in Oakland, but they did just give up a heating-up bat for a rental that will spearhead a rotation that was already quite silly. Oakland's problem going into the playoffs wasn't going to be pitching IMO, especially considering many AL competitors have shown offenses that are liable to say "fuck your starter's sub-3 ERA". Orioles, Tigers, Angels all have been able to consistently light up aces. Lester's impact on that rotation just does not wow me when you've got a guy like Tommy Milone ready to push out lolHammel within the next week or so at the back end.

A's historic run differential has largely been carried by a huge first half, and a lot of those bats have cooled considerably.

Boston did okay here, but I have a hard time believing this was the best offer on the table - we know Cespedes' ceiling (incredible defender, .250 20 HR bat) and we could probably even inflate those power numbers a bit moving from O.co to Fenway. But he's got a contract that isn't really the best and I just have to believe there were prospects on the table that very well could have panned out to be much better.

Unless Boston flips Cespedes, I personally am not wowed by this trade for either side.

Cespedes is making only 9m/year this year and next and gives you 4-5 WAR through power and great defense, which is supported by more than just the highlight throws.

Basically Boston opted for proven talent over packages of prospects.

This is the kind of shit that keeps you in shit tier mode for a decade. The team will never acquire or grow talent that can set this team back on the right path if they sit on their (astonishingly meh) core of players.

But it actually doesn't matter what you or Amaro wants at this point because all of their contracts are so fucking bad that they couldn't be traded anyway.
