Exactly, there is no hard definition and it seems to change call by call. I'm sure this rule is going to get tweaked over the off season, but i'm just waiting for a manager to have a heart attack on the field as they are jawing with a ref over it.

    MIKE FIERS

Called up from Triple-A because of Garza's inevitable injury - strikes out 14 Cubs in 6 innings. First Brewers starter in history to strike out 14 with 0 ERs in a start.

Well the Cubs do have Adam Dunn v 2.0 playing second base. That's like spotting him 4k's right off the bat.

Add him to the list - 8th pitcher in MLB history to have 14 Ks in 6 or fewer innings.

2nd player in history to do it without giving up a single run.

Scherzer and Fiers both threw 14+K games today, only the second time in MLB history that two different pitchers threw 14+Ks on the same day (2001: Hideo Nomo + Kerry Wood)

First of all, Adam Dunn v2.0 already plays for the Brewers and is named Mark Reynolds (who went deep again today for his Brewers-leading 21st homer).

Second of all, Mike Fiers is the only player in the history of baseball to strike out 14 batters while facing fewer than 23.

Jesus Christ, Adam Dunn hit EXACTLY 40 home runs 4 straight seasons from 2005-2008.

He should learn to pitch deeper, almost not a quality start.

He gets probably 75% of the starts, mostly at first base. Why sorry? He's pretty much exactly a league average bat, and he's the highest rated defensive first baseman in baseball this season by UZR, giving him an fWAR of 1.9 so far.

because offensively if he's doing as well as he is now it is almost certain that he is due for a trainwreck given his last 4 seasons. he is also having a much better defensive season than he ever has, but that's ok statistically, good for him. he is pretty much a 50/50 chance to be useless or very useful during any playoff hunt because of the wya his hits come

I wonder how much of that is attributed to lack of a scouting report. Tune in his next start to see if he gets lit up like Christmas.

He had a start prior to this (8ip,3h,1run vs the Dodgers) and a bunch in 2012-2013.

He was an above - average hitter his whole time with the Orioles, dunno why you're so mad at him.

I was mostly just making fun of Moss but yes that is a good game he pitched.

i do not hate mark reynolds at all. he is the sheriff. an integral part of the orioles magic run in '12. if he helps the brew crew succeed then i am happy for him. he's just very much a peak and valley type payer, and it's hard to feel safe that way when all that really matters is a couple of playoff series.
