A proposal my professor submitted for a few of us to do a presentation was accepted, so I get to do some extra work for some professional development time and a line on my resume.

Sorry Ace. It's all hush hush right now but my Club is moving to Interstate before the summer. I am not sorry to see Club Assist go. Their testing equipment is absolute garbage. No software update is going to change that. The 7500's are not an improvement. Take that from someone with an internal upper level management viewpoint.

That is very interesting. I can tell you that over the 9 years that I have in and out of the driver's seat, I have ALWAYS fought with the testers. Today, me and 7 other drivers in Portland got the chance to voice our complaints about the testing policies and were basically told to shut the fuck up and suck their dicks. The regional Club Assist rep was quite a dick about it and the AAA fleet services admin laughed at me when I told him the "first test, only test that counts" policy was absolutely unnecessary and a huge hinderance on being able to properly solve the member's problem. After that experience, I just shrugged it off and was happy to have new testers at least so I could get that all-important first test.

Now, since you said your club is moving away from Club Assist, I am not so happy. What is your experience with the 7500s? How are they not an improvement?

I knew he would read this and understand. Basically, we test car batteries when a member asks for the battery service truck. The tester spits out a code for every test done and it has to match the call number as well as be a complete test (test the battery, starter, alternator, and drain). If you are missing any of that data, or the car won't start or about 1000 different scenarios, the test code is thrown out by AAA. You have to have at least 80% of your calls with valid test codes. This is not possible unless you are fucking with the way you clear the call on anything that you know will not be accepted by AAA as a valid test code.

For example; if you get a messed up code because there was a starter problem and you had to play with the starter to get the vehicle started, you would clear the call with a "miscellaneous" instead of clearing it as a battery service call. Techs also clear a lot of calls as "No Service Rendered" even when they have jump-started the vehicle because the NSR pays the same amount and does not require any test codes. Risky but necessary to meet their bullshit percentage numbers.

Probably too much info, but now you know!

We did side by side tests for starters. We had hooked up two batteries overnight to clips and a light bulb to drain them completely. Both came up with charge then retest. Which we anticipated. Both were then put on trickle chargers for 12 hours. The Interstate battery tested good. Club Assist tested charge and retest. 36 hours on the trickle charger we finally received the good test. We had two batteries that we knew had bad cells. Interstate picked up on it immediately. Club Assist did nothing but come back with charge and retest. 7 times. We put both in sub zero environments for 24 hours(we have entire weeks where the high is under 10 degrees.) The 7500 locked up repeatedly, screens wouldn't refresh, input wouldn't actually input. The Interstate tester worked like it was fresh out of the box. We have had hands on time with both and I walked away thoroughly unimpressed with the 7500. It's just a souped up version of a crappy initial design. The ones we had would only pick up the infrared sensor on the printer half the time etc.

Nissan fixed the issue with my truck and covered it under warranty. The engineer guy even admitted that they have fixed this issue on several other trucks. Now it has an extra k&n washable air filter in front of the system to keep dust out.

Feels good after all the time on the phone with Nissan.

This may seem weak for this thread, but I'm pretty sure I have a job at Microcenter. The job isn't the win though. It's the fact I get to move back to the metro Detroit area. I currently live in a dull town that has zero to offer for myself or my wife. She has an interview on the 7th of April for a job in Macomb. We're both very excited to move closer to her family and to be back in a major city. Also, if I do get the job at MC and there isn't a restriction of what I can buy with my employee discount I'm gonna go bananas.

I seriously fucking miss Michigan so I hope it works out. I lived just outside Detroit for almost 6 years and loved it. Hope you are able to get settled easily !

I am interested in hearing all this because everyone in our club has no interest in listening to anyone who wants to identify problems and offer solutions. The management at Fleet Services just want to pretend it is all bubblegum and roses, the contractors won't raise a fuss because paycheck, and the techs don't know shit in the eyes of Fleet because they are just lowly scum doing as they are told.

I like hearing the real feedback on an issue that has been problematic for the last 15 years. But hey, at least we don't have to test batteries with a hydrometer...

Well, what Michiganders consider Detroit Metro is a pretty large area. The below map encompasses what locals would consider the metro area. There is so much diversity, great shopping, restaurants, and events you can go to. Detroit itself still has a ways to go, but I love going to downtown Detroit in the summer and Greektown as well. Many bars and restaurants to hit up along with concerts, Tigers games, and the casinos if that's your thing. I'm not going to attempt and say Detroit is some magical land and it's the opposite of what the general public thinks, but it's not nearly as bad either.

lol i was being facetious. i've actually heard a fair amount about detroit's improvements. and i suppose, like anywhere else, not being dirt poor helps the place be better to live in.
