So went by a Best Buy today as some are getting Marth's in. Employee asked what I was looking for. He said if it was Meta Knight, don't even bother as I stock that aisle and I know we don't have any. Went to leave after confirmed no Marth's, walked by the lockup at the registers, 4 Meta Knights sitting there, and the cage door wasn't locked. So bought two more for trades.

Also saw a noob trying to show off on his shitty mustang, revving the engine at a red light before it turned green, then stalled out.

Fuck that shit. You take the free living as long as you can or until you've reached your goal. My friend paid his share at his parent's house and worked his engineering job for 2 years. Then bought his house outright

Nothing wrong with it as long as you're contributing. Don't need more scummy pieces of shit like my brother that brought his whore wife into my mother's house to live rent free for the past 5-6 years, even though he's been working in his chosen career field for almost a decade.

Usually the phrase "grow up" has a derogatory connotation with it, so I'm guessing you didn't really read what I said.
People leech off their parents way too long these days. Maybe it's because of the people I have met that still live with their parents after college, but it just seems like people don't grow up like they used to. One guy I worked with was still living with his parents at 26, because it was free and he wanted to be able to move out the "right way". He never had money even though he had 1 bill for his car. It also might be the way I was raised in that I'd rather be poor than reliant on someone else for shelter. Plus, I much prefer not having to negotiate what I want to do and when.

The guy has a solid plan. Hell I'm still living at home, granted I am still in college and work a full time job. Which I may cut down to part time next semester if possible, and by part time I mean 28-32 hours or so. I plan on living at home until I finish up college, and perhaps for a year or two after that. So long as I'm contributing I see no problem with it.

Screw those people who mooch off of their parents and have no plan of moving out/doing something in the future. I would not even consider moving somebody else in, I would not even consider that as an option. Last year alone I contributed 6k in rent along, and have yet to take out a single school loan. Although that may change for these final two years as I want to mow through them instead of taking it slower as to not have to take loans out.

I wonder if it has ANYTHING to do with people getting into proportionally more debt through college and tending to make proportionally less money and decent jobs (that aren't manual labor, sometimes even then actually) being harder to get.
Nah, couldn't be any of that. Right?

The fact he has a plan and is working towards something is different than just sitting around waiting for shit to happen. I really hate the negativity surrounding living at home, it's much more common now due to state of things. Honestly had I known then what I know now, I wouldn't have been such a bitch to my mom and instead of moving in and out of the house would have stayed put awhile longer to save some money for my future. I always was paying rent and contributing far more than necessary but circumstances weren't the best either.

Fuck people for telling you to "grow up" , sounds like you are making smart choices to me which imo is what being grown up is about.

I'm still living at home to this day, at 28, though I'm finally closing on a home purchase this summer.

I got my first real job about 4.5 years ago now, but rather than move out right away I opted to get in a better financial position first. I still paid all my own bills and contributed to the house expenses while living home, but used everything else I could save to pay off the credit card debt and car (took the first ~1year), my student loans (~2.5y), and then saved enough for 20% down + full furnishings + a savings cushion (~1y). Overall, it saved me ~$15k in interest and freed up ~$1,300/month in the budget (not counting the savings from making a 20% down-payment instead of 5%... which saves another ~$15k interest and ~$300/month over the 30year mortgage).

How practical it is and/or how long you can do it definitely depends on how well you get along with/the relationship with your parents, and your own situation (whether you have kids or a wife or etc). So it isn't for everyone, but if you can make it work it can make a huge difference.

Should be interesting when the parents end up moving in with the kids. Baby boomers and no health care should be fun.

This mentality of moving out and struggling is truly an ego issue. With how expensive it is, I don't blame people for sharing homes. As long as they're contributing it's all good.

Fuck the haters, stay as long as you need to start life in the green. This debt shit is for the birds. If i was able to live with my parents during my time in college, and not rack up that extra debt......

There's positives to both sides of it. I stayed with my parents until I was 27. But the last two years were so I could help my mom take care of my dad before he passed. Up until that point I had lived two years on my own(with roommates that I knew forever.) I've lived both sides of it and I infinitely prefer the non struggling part. But the part where I was living paycheck to paycheck was a good humbling experience.

Am I the only one who feels like everyone should have to experience that for a period of time? Probably for another thread, but I don't think parents are doing the world a favor by not having their kids have a job before leaving high school.

Having a job is no guarantee you can survive. Kind of related to what Sheep was bringing up.

Research has shown that teenagers — and especially teenage boys — who work are more likely to graduate high school, more likely to go to college and less likely to get into trouble with the law. They also gain valuable work experience that can make it easier to get a job and get promoted more quickly in adulthood. But for a variety of reasons — fewer job opportunities, more emphasis on schooling, changing societal expectations — fewer young people are getting summer jobs.

But yeah I worked year round from age 12 to 20, 4 years as a paperboy (another job that has sharply declined, especially for kids), then subway and a video store.
