i have one. it's a kwik trip card that i literally only use at kwik trip, have it set to automatically draw from my checking every month. ive been thinking about getting a second one for larger purchases not on Newegg, but i really dont have much income so in order to make use of it id have to carry a balance over multiple months, and then im paying interest so..... havent gone for it.

I'm just a cash-back rewards whore.

I charge all my regular spending to whichever credit card has the best cash back from the purchase, and pay them all off at the end of the month. I don't carry a balance or pay any interest.

The request for a credit line increase was just to help keep my utilization% low for my credit score, and to have the option if it's ever necessary in hard times (as much as I'd hate to use it, better than losing the house or something).

ive always been told you shouldn't just let them sit idle, but you also don't want to carry large balances. i think the rule of thumb is keep using it for about 20% of your limit?

I should have clarified. Never really use it from their perspective. Make purchases and pay them off before the interest starts accruing. AMEX makes you do this on their higher tier products anyway (Can't carry a balance). I start every month with a 0 balance unless something drastic happens.

Something like that. With many cards you want to use them a little but don't don't want to carry more than 50% balance or preferably 20% balance. You have to have the card open for 1 year with some use in order to start building credit off of it.
