Supposedly an admiral signed a letter stating that my "ship" [USS Enterprise (CVN-65)] is going to get Sea Pay back.

In addition, we're getting backpaid to Janurary 1st, 2013 when they killed it off.

also i assume Sea Pay is some sort of service that lets you get paid while not in port or something like that?

Sea pay is what you get for actually being at sea. It is the Navy equivalent of combat pay for the Marines/Army, except they get it even in peace time. If your ship is docked or if you are assigned to shore duty, you aren't eligible. It "helps" to offset the fact that you work 12 on/12 off for 8 months straight when out to sea.

I've never been in the Navy so I might be massively wrong about that, but I'm pretty sure that's about right.

Not exactly. Sea pay just doesn't turn on and off. You get it while being assigned to a sea going command. So legit shore duty no. Decom I think also not usually. But like just being in port not much changes (hell your total work hours don't always change that much in fact I've occasionally "worked" more hours a week in port with nothing going on at all than at sea). Being in the yards for repairs still get it. Not sure about refuelings or offcrew for boomers though.

Like for example I got to the USS San Francisco the day after it limped into port. Pretty much immediately to floating drydock for 6 months. 1 month at sea getting to Washington. Then 2.5 years in Puget Sound Naval Shipyard either tied to the pier or in drydock for repairs. Sea pay never stopped.

We're in a weird situation. Basically we pulled into port at the end of the 2012 deployment. Stuff got promised but in actuality once we got decomissioned we got our sea pay killed.

Cut to April 2013 we lose the barge's galley, get food allowance, lose seapay. Since Seapay for nubs (Myself included) was $80 we didn't give two shits because we were getting $300/mo in food allowance.

However once you hit 3 years in culumnative seapay your total jumps from $160 to $350 (If you're E-4 to E-6 with current rates.). If you did it all at once you get an additional $200 kicker so the whole thing becomes obscene. Its easily more than $10k for everyone who was on deployment. $5k for people who weren't. And for prior senior in rate fuck they're getting $20k.

If this happens (And its likely) it'll make our whole condition of defueling for the last 3 years much more bearable since we've done a year of rotating shiftwork with another year planned and shipyard taking FOREVER to do shit. An extra $600/month will definitely help out with morale.

'prise definitely has its perks. I've never had a job where I got paid salary for just showing up to work and booking it right after quarters. Or just not showing up at all because I'm not on the watchbill. Or not doing any maintenance because you literally took a hacksaw to the control system because inactivation.

How good that is probably depends on your rate... I bet a lot of the nukes are still around until it's defueled... actually old guys told me they still had to stand shutdown reactor operator when there was no core during refueling so maybe even then.
