You don't actually have to spend 3 months pay you guys...
Holy shit I would not want something worth that much on my hand. $12k is a really good chunk of of my student loans paid off and gone forever.
Then again, I have no plans to get married again ever, so talking about what type of ring I'd want is entirely moot. (But um, I'd want onyx.)
Pretty much this. My wife and I decided to spend less on the rings to save money where we could. Overall we spent way too much money, and about 15k over budget, so it's a good thing we cut back in places where we could.
You can always buy a new engagement ring and wedding band down the line for an anniversary.
team heirloom checking in. GOD BLESS DEAD GRANDMOTHERS AMIRITE. Still spent hella racks on the wedding band tho because my wife is like OH I NEED ALL THE DIAMONDS
Basically the 3 months salary is an old and tired tradition which isn't really used anymore.
Go on Blue Nile, pick the diamond YOU like best and save a ton. End up with a ring that would cost 3x as much in a brick and mortar. In the end it'll be appraised for or be as nice/better than a ring that would have been 3 months salary anyway. Perfect cut, clarity, all her friends rings look yellow next to it. Grats on getting a bigger rock thats a worse cut fools.
Quoted for truth. I just spent less than 7k on a 1.5 carat round cut Halo with .5 surrounding diamonds for my girl who I am proposing to soon - comes with a platinum band. . Should be on my parents doorstep in 1 month, (Not having it delivered to my home since she lives with me).
Pic for awesomeness. She likes a simple band, and is a huge fan of halo/round.
Also, it's custom made so one of a kind. Had it tweaked a bit so that no one else has this ring. That's the default image, but I tweaked some things, don't have a pic of that

I do my jewelry buying on 47th street. Ends up being a great price, especially compared to major retailers. I buy from the same guy my dad has been going to for 40 years.
That being said, expensive jewelry is fucking retarded.
Relevant, can't be assed to format properly on my phone, sorry

Didn't watch the video, but diamonds in general are a scam.
They didn't know what to do with them, so they started marketing them as the only thing women want in their jewelry in the early 1900s. The marketing caught on and they kept upping the prices.
The way the diamond market works, ignoring the blatant humanitarian issues, is ridiculous. De Beers and the like give stone houses contracts that state the stone houses have to accept every shipment of stones they send, regardless of cost, quality, quantity, or remainder from the last shipment. We're talking millions for each stone dealer, each delivery. If they don't take the delivery they can be sued for breach of contract, have the contract cancelled, and someone will quickly replace them. They'll basically be blacklisted and find it incredibly difficult to get shipments ever again.
My engagement ring was from my mother-in-law. My wedding ring was a clearance ring and bought it for $300. I can't fucking tell the difference in diamonds, but the style was what I wanted, and the price was what I wanted. So yeah. Fuck wasting money on shit.
I blame the Jews.
I'm also looking for a ring. So hilarious to see the sales rep come at me when I'm dressed as a scrub. But I return the next day in a suit.
Seems halo is what I'm leaning toward. Now what should I look for to prevent the yellow look?
Seems easier to ask BG then get bs from the jewelry shops.
Yellowing is the color grade of the diamond. You'll want a diamond with a letter closer to D to have a more clear color (D being the best).
Rather than a GIA certified diamond, you can go EGL which is the same thing, but EGL certified diamonds are cheaper for some reason. My dad explained it to me one time, but I forget the exact reason.
Spent around 4k on the engagement ring and loved it. Could have went bigger, couldn't have gotten a better cut or color. Went with the solitaire look we loved. It was exactly what I wanted and I feel bigger would have been a bad idea seeing how this looks on her. Plus, being a nurse she takes it off for work, so I got her a necklace to wear it on while at work.
We just spent 3k combined on our wedding rings and loveeeee them. I'm looking forward to wearing it.
I spent 3k on the engagement ring, another 2k on the wedding band. My wedding band is my dad's old band. My mom passed away and he's getting remarried so I'm using it. It's pretty much what I was going to get anyway; white gold with a brushed finish.
I hate wearing it though. I never wore jewelry or watches in almost 27 years of my life so having something on my finger 24/7 is weird as shit, even 6 months later.
shits so funny. had the same thing happen like 6 years ago. had some clinical trial money, was shopping for a new TV and some other electronics, dressed normally. Went to Best Buy and sat around for half an hour before one of the employees finally deigned to notice me. As soon as he realized I was looking at dropping a couple grand in total, his entire attitude changed and suddenly I had 3-4 employees in the general vicinity answering questions.
I went to buy a 70 inch vizio at best buy once dressed in sweats and this young dousche finally came to help me. I'm like there's none on display do they sell fast and he's like Haha no Bro no one buys vizio and I'm like that's too bad for them since they have better input lag, refresh rates, black levels, contrast etc than anything up to 2500$ and the kid didn't even know what those meant. I'm like here's my 20% off coupon by the way go ahead and order it, he then proceeded to tell me that coupon doesn't work on TVs and I laughed and said try it. It did. Thanks Bro.
CreditKarma finally updated my CC and debts down to nothing (Made a post in Feb about being out of debt.) Score went up 66 and 43 points for the two companies they report for. 1 point away from being in the last tier on TransUnion and only a few with Equifax.
Reeaaaallly happy right now.
Think I spent 1500 on astylla's engagement ring at Shane co and it blew all the 3k+ rings out of the water at crap like Kay's and barons. Went inexpensive on the wedding ring. I don't even wear my band anymore since I got tungsten due to working in a jail and I lost about 40+ pounds since the wedding and it no longer fits so she has it in a keepsake box
My bitch'll get the ring off a pepsi bottle and be happy!
Though in all fairness, if she couldn't appreciate the above joke, I wouldn't want her anyway.![]()
