If League has the largest playerbase of all the vidya in the world how come Heroes of the Storm is on ESPN and DOTA2 has a signicantly larger tournament reward? thx

The last year or two a couple Blizzard championships have been venturing onto espn/2/3, league has been getting constant Facebook posts.

Riot also has a salary system in place for players. DotA and HOTS don't under most circumstances.

Also The International (for DotA 2) has a base prize pool that is enhanced by a crowdfund (75% goes to valve, 25% goes to the prize pool.) The crowdfund is pretty much a skin (or hat because Valve) collection grab bag. One grab bag was for a courier that had a very low drop rate (Faceless rex). Also bragging rights for those who threw in ~$350+ to the prize pool and get their compendiums above level 1000. They could get a physical item shipped to them for throwing in so much money. It's why the prize pool hit $16.8 million.

Though in regards to hats, you can get rare shit to sell on the Steam Marketplace.

wow thx for all the good info. Just something I was wondering because last night I watched Heroes of the Dorm on ESPN 2 and it was fucking lit so I think im ready for that moba life. I have never moba'd someone pls help

Unless your in your mid teens to early 20s, don't bother. Also living off of ramen playing online tournaments at 2am local time with a 150ms+ ping is not the high life. Most of the time, for DotA at least, those games don't even pay out until you get into the money part of the league which at most times winner grabs $5000-$15000 split 5 ways (plus organization split if you're affiliated). And these guys aren't even salaried unless you're a tier 1 or tier 2 team with sponsorships backing the organizations.

Riot has their shit regulated where you play in a studio at reasonable times and get paid a steady salary.

Though the day someone on BG comes in here and says they get an E-Sports scholarship at some university... I wouldn't even know what to say to that. Yea, they're starting to give money to students to play vidya games. I said it.

i would suggest League then. Of all the mobas ive played, it's the most forgiving, easiest to pick up casually.

Yeah, I tried to get into HotS, just never enjoyed it, and I think I installed LoL once but never played. Just wasn't my cup of tea. Would rather play Overwatch or TF2

Ehh, give it a shot. Both are free to play, so you won't lose anything more than a few hours of your life to find out if you like it or not. I can't say for sure on HotS player behavior, just know that LoL's community makes our political forum look like a bunch of unicorns and rainbows.

Yeah....we spent a majority of the time without showering. Also I didn't sleep with any of them since there was a very strict no relationship/sex rule and I wasn't gonna get sent home over some vag. I did see a lot of boobs though since we didn't have changing rooms.

That being said, they had the same policy when I was sailing in the Caribbean as a freshman in HS.

I'm 23...Also there wasn't really the time or anywhere private to go even if I wanted to. They were pretty strict and kept a watchful eye on us the whole time.
