You have a full cert, right? I remember you posting earlier that you've gotten an offer from a middle school. Have you considered seeing if they need people to teach summer school?

Teachers willing to put up with that shit are in constant demand down here.

They seem to have filled those positions before I attended the teacher job fair. Otherwise, hell yeah, I'd much rather be teaching. I start a professional development session on July 18th, that's four days paid. Then the school year starts on August 10th for students so I'm assuming I'll be working at least a few days before that (hopefully a full week because I feel like I'm going to need to get a lot of shit together for the year but as soon as I know what grade I'm teaching I'm going to be busting my ass with planning). But yeah, summer school was kind of a bust this year, just too soon after graduation. So I'm scraping along for the moment, but I don't care. Some of my bills are behind right now but everything will be fine in a few months. I'm basically willing to put up with all sorts of stupid shit just to stay afloat long enough to start at the school.

And this belongs more in the fail thread than this one, but call center jobs are absolute fucking bullshit. Holy shit they're easy to get hired on at though.

It really depends actually. My job is technically a call center environment but they are picky as fuck. They also take forever to hire anyone - average time from interviews ( minimum three plus meeting GM before hired , plus personality tests , etc.) is over a month. I think it's why we lose so many potential applicants because they move on before an offer is provided.

On the service side it's fucking easy , you just have to go in knowing you're dealing with entitled people but never have to see them face to face.

Sales is overly complicated with a now shit pay scale for bonuses and quotas, fuck that.

But yeah most call centers if you have a pulse you can get hired but several have insane penalties for every little thing with poor benefits.

In my case since I'm considered service at the dealership I get all the perks and benefits - Sunday's off , every holiday paid , dealership bonus yearly if we qualify( doubt it this year) without any of the headaches and quotas.

Yeah my first job ever was at a call center and I had been avoiding working for one because I already knew that they were bullshit but I was having a lot of trouble getting considered anywhere else and I needed a job for the summer so I basically said fuck it and put my resume in and I was hired the next day. This one at least required a background check first but some of the other ones I looked at basically wanted you to come in and you'd interview on the spot and basically if you showed up and could fill out an application they would take you.

Fuck all sales to the highest order though, I knew for a fact that I didn't want to do that shit. Live on minimum wage if I don't hit a quota? Nope, nope, and nope.

They actually filled up? Before summer school even starts? That's incredible. Hang in there! And definitely don't sweat planning too much. Trying to come up with your own lessons for every day of the year is a good way to burn out and/or end up with free days whenever things don't get done in time. I would definitely consider stealing whatever lessons/materials you can from other teachers in your department and modifying/personalizing them as you have time so you have a solid foundation you can add on to.

My first year at this school sucked balls because of that. We're a small HS and I am the only 9th grade teacher. Previous teacher was supposed to leave his binder so I could base my lesson of of his, but we could never find it. It was rough. @.@;

I could start planning now if I knew what grade I was going to teach. I don't even know that yet. It's kind of terrifying actually, but at least for the first week I can just go over rules and procedures and start on something simple.

Nothing quite beats the satisfaction of sitting in good AC when it's hot. One of the biggest things I miss about the military is keeping my barracks room/base housing at a chill 60 F 24/7 when I was in warmer climates

I just got back from a meeting and didn't realize until 3/4 of the way back to the office that my car's A/C was on the lowest temperature it would go. It felt amazing.

I only run A/C at night in our apartment, though, because the living area in the basement stays pretty cool.

Fuck no, god I wish and I did contemplate springing for it. Ended up with tix for the Chicago performance but Lin is gonna be involved and he was on periscope today making it sound like there was a surprise or two on the cast. Either way I'm fucking fired up.
