So a few weeks ago I asked a female co-worker out. She politely declined saying she was in a relationship but said she'd still like being friends and maybe go out to lunch sometime. A week later I try offering her out to lunch and she gets a little evasive but says she'll think about it.

Should probably mention I'm a cook at a senior living facility and she's a server most days but is my prep cook one day of the week. We work very well together and she has a fantastic personality, sense of humor, smart cute good taste in music etc etc.

Now, yesterday she texts me saying she's been keeping something from me because she wasn't sure how I would react: she has a girlfriend. I have absolutely no problem with that and explain to her that I am seriously 100% fine being friends. She's happy about that and looks like we're on a good start to that.

The 10% fail is that I apparently have a very unconscious gaydar because this is the third one I've fallen for.

I guess the other irl win is that this whole past year has been fantastic for me. I stopped being a shut-in a couple years ago and went to culinary school. Been working at this place for 9 months now. My first job, hired on my first interview despite being a nervous wreck (I assume). All of my co-workers are super friendly and great to work with and because we're relatively small-staffed I'm already being trusted with a lot of responsibility and I'm "one of them" now more or less. Having the time of my life, even though I know the pay isn't that great (not something I need to worry about just yet) and that I'm obviously not gonna work here forever.

Weaned myself off of chugging endless sodas every day and eating super unhealthy also. Now just need to work up the effort to start working out.
Don't give up. Just because she has a gf doesn't mean she doesn't want the D!

    One can only hope.

Honestly I'm not too bummed about it. All things considered it's still a good outcome.

It seems I may have helped a current temporary co-worker finally get permanent employee status at my job. He's been being dicked around with false promises and his contract is up, so he's worried it won't get renewed. Luckily another department is hiring and I'm sure he'd fit in. He can do the job, and it's like a higher level position than the one he currently has. I may get a referral bonus too, so that'd be nice.

Is it standard practice with companies to have employees do the work of the senior/lead role before promoting? It seems more like a way to get more work out of less paid employees. It appears to be a common thing my company does and I'm not very pleased when I see it. They've been doing it to myself and my other department co-hort for years now. We got what was supposed to be a "promotion" a few years ago, but it was mainly a market adjustment, and a title change. Our current boss agrees it was not what should have happened.

It really depends on the company. If someone is being groomed or considered for a promotion then it's not uncommon to get them started to ensure a smoother transition. On the flipside, you will have those lazy bosses who just shunt the responsibility off on someone else without giving a shit if they're supposed to or not.

My previous job had me working up to a Lead role by slowly ingraining the day-to-day overseeing to me, which was a good example of it. Working at fucking Gamestop as a teenager though had me running returns and doing inventory and generally working at a level higher than what I should have as a minimum wage register jockey. We caught our manager sleeping in the backroom once, while we were supposed to be doing her morning inventory check for her.

I've just seen people get burned more than once and I don't understand how they can keep doing it. Mind you, our company is now even larger than it was before. We were global before, but since we've merged with the competitor we purchased last year, we're even larger with a much larger market space. It seems to take forever for anything to go through in terms of promotions.

I've seen situations where people have been groomed to do something or are given a list of things they need to to, they do it, then after x amount of time they're told that the promotion wasn't approved. I don't see how a place get away with that, but I don't know where the problem lies.

In AWS you have to prove you can do the job before you will get offered the job. Ironically it's easier to get hired from outside AWS then it is to get promoted within it.

Well yeah lol. Why pay for a promotion when you can have someone do the job to prove they can do it at the same rate they make now.

I renewed my registration just a couple of days ago, and they say it takes about 7-10 business days to get your new sticker. Got it today, which means I only had to drive on an expired sticker for one day. Huge sigh of relief there.

A few years ago my truck got towed because the registration sticker was expired. It happened to coincide with a trip out of town so I ended up paying something like $600 to get my truck back from the tow yard.

So yeah, they do around here, and they're fucking brutal. I'd think that getting pulled over is less likely at this point because I drive less than 3 miles to/from work, but still, I don't like taking the chance because I'm already so broke as it is.

You can and will get pulled over for expired tags. In Florida I believe after 6 months it is an arrestable offense instead of a fine. However if you have actually renewed and just not gotten the stickers, you can't be fined for it. You could get pulled over but once the police run your plates they will see that you are up to date and can't fine you. The goal, however, is to not get pulled over in the first place.

In Florida at least you can renew your registration online or by mail and it will take a few days for it to reach you, or you could go to the DMV and get it done same day. The con to that of course being there's no telling how long you might have to wait at the DMV.

Yeah, I would have just gone to the DMV but an hour is all I get for lunch and it's pretty much unheard of to get in and out of the DMV in less than an hour (not to mention travel time to and from). So I did it online but I thought it would take longer to get here. Certainly not complaining because it's one less thing giving me anxiety.

CHP checks sometimes. And for trucks anytime you go thru a weighting station shit will get checked.

i've been pulled over for tags before. i got off with a warning because it was taken care of and they were in the mail.

they'll nail you for it if they notice it, even if the car is parked.

Texas is super strict about registrations. My dad's been pulled over twice about it in 8 years. He's only had the ~3-4 day gap while the tags are in the mail three times. I'm sure you could get away with it in more rural areas, but if you drive in an area with noticeable police presence you will get pulled over.

Also not sure about other places but my city has some kind of parking authority or something. Forget exactly what they are called. But basically they drive around in a government issue golfkart down city streets looking for people to ticket. They got cameras too which I'm told helps them figure out if a car has been in same spot awhile instead of chalking too. Luckily I haven't seen one since I saw a cop pull one over to give a ticket lol

I got pulled over for expired sticker on the back of my truck in Reno NV. They definitely check. They didn't fine me but just gave me a warning because I had just paid but it was in the mail still.

Here in Utah when you renew online you also get a temporary tag you can print off and put in you back window until your new stickers arrive. It's nice since you don't have to worry about getting pulled over.
