Fuck, I don't even know what hole I'd have to crawl in to make it by on $10. I mean fuck, you're looking at a minimum of $900-1k to rent some shitty apartment or 1 bedroom, you'd be working 3/4 weeks just to pay the rent @ 40hrs/week. That's crazy lol
Cost of living is dramatically different in different parts of the country.
Yeah back in my hometown rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is still under $400 a month. Nothing even remotely close to that down here without living in suitcase city.
Man I started at $10/hr in high school doing construction that was in 1998.
My win is less random but I passed my test today and I am now an Apple Certified Support Professional! Now I just need to pass the server test and the hardware test. That test was way harder than I thought it would be, some really obscure questions.
The Twin Cities are not all of Minnesota. I'm in MN, too.
It's not very good pay from a being-able-to-live stand-point but it's crazy good from a what-will-they-actually-pay-me-for-this standpoint.
Yeah, Ohio's minimum wage is only $7.25. Some grunt work is "decent" enough to bump that up to $8 or so, and while cost of living probably isn't too bad outside of the 3C's, it's still not what I consider "good" living. My own personal happy medium would begin at about $13/hr. Enough for an okay place, car/gas, insurances, food, TV, net, tucking about 10% away, and some leftover for buying games or whatever. Granted, 25k/yr is probably not what a lot would call stellar, but I also grew up a frugal mofo. Most entry level work here would probably be lucky to break $10/hr, though. Exceptions possibly being in the coal mines or construction. Physically, though, I couldn't do that. Knee's too gone.
My win: My new shoes are here and they seem to fit great. prolly give 'em a spin tonight or tomorrow if my parents feel like watching more Farscape.
Just so people are clear, I understand that 10$/hr isnt "WOW AMAZING" pay, as I have friends who make 32$/hr+ and whatnot. But for the area I live in, it's a lot better than what most places pay, and like I said I want to help contribute financially to my family/my school and this is a job that I know I will have for a good amount of time.
I think it's awesome and I myself don't make much ( never went to college for various reasons ) and I completely understand. I only make $16/hr and to me that is great given my background and job field. I've been through it all from holding 3 minimum wage jobs just to eat ramen and water to this now.
Everyone has to do something or start somewhere. I never stopped looking for better opportunities hence why I work where I do now. Being able to give back and continue forward is what matters most. You should be happy.
I'm happy beyond words lol. After i got hired I sat on my floor in a happy stupor for 15 minutes. I worked yesterday and loved every minute of it. Great co-workers, and an amazing boss with incredible work ethic.
That's awesome I'm happy for you too! I miss working.. This workman's comp shit is getting old. I have a great company and coworkers too I miss. It's great when you find that as its rare.
Another win: We get to use chainsaws sometimes
you should not be using power tools of any sort
Trying new beers today.

Built a computer back in June when my student money came in. Bought some of the stuff on amazon and some of the stuff on newegg.
Just got an email today from all the shit I bought on Amazon that I got refunded because the items came late (I don't even remember them coming late and certainly didn't make a claim saying they did).
THey just gave me $400.86 amazon credit
