My lv49 retainer is using i43~ gear and regularly brings back 1-2 HQ per trip. I haven't tried artificially lowering the level though.

I've been doing the 18 hour ventures (xxxx exploration X) before I go to bed and my fsh/btn/min retainers have returned (two days in a row) with a gathering/crafting materia III each time. So I'm 6/6 on tier 3 crafting/gathering materia from that.

Does that seem right, or did I just hit some sort of RNG jackpot?

What's your ilevel, I've been hypothesizing that materia levels are based off of that for explorations.

The FSH retainer is ilvl7, the BTN and MIN ilvl is 9. (Same gear on all three except weapon, obviously BTN and MIN have an off-hand weapon and FSH doesn't).

Wouldn't really make sense, DoL retainer's ilvl isn't a factor in their gathering, only their gathering/perception stats matter.

What's more, FSH doesn't have an off-hand tool, so their ilvl would always be nerfed.

Does the game not just double count the ilvl of the main hand weapon like it does with every other 2h class? (Brd, Whm, Blm, War, etc.)

Tools aren't "one-handed" or "two-handed", they're just primary and secondary.

FSH doesn't get any kind of special ilvl adjustment since ilvl isn't something that ever matters for DoL.

This adjustment is intended to ensure balance in the distribution of materials and items related to high-level recipes introduced in patch 2.2.

Looks like people will actually have to craft those Carby, Tonberry, Leviathan, Whatever White Raven fragment made. Guess SE didn't like people bypassing wasting time making some of this stuff lol.

as far as ilvl gear on the retainers and the higher lvl they are, has anyone noticed better drops on quick exploration? Or is the 18hr ones the only ones effected by that.

Quick and field is purely RNG. As for gear level. My ilv 84 archer brought me 10 HQ apkallu eggs on a regular venture. I'm sure the fact I got 10 HQ was based on the ilv

I don't think Field is "purely RNG." That would make Field exploration literally obsolete at 50 (costs same # of ventures, takes 18x longer to return, and has a minimum Gathering requirement).

I think they meant "pure RNG within the subset of items in its loot pool" (i.e. doing the i70 Field with i90 doesn't net you any better loot than doing the i70 Field in i70 gear).

This, It doesn't seem like gear level affects anything aside the gathering/hunting ventures (after you hit the minimum requirement). But yes, what you get from quick and Field is RNG. They do have different loot tables though.

But then there is retainer E-penis, so ilv does matter!

Pay someone to make the item if you can't and sell it for more. Lightsteel plate is around 300k on Excal now but the items seem to be much higher.
