God that takes me back to Wii Fire Emblem and making kick-ass custom swords that, yes, looked like crayon blades.
Why am I only on books I need that now.
bah fuck it
should still have time to collect for drk before 2.55 even if dzemael fuck me over, i guess..
dont dye this shit btw, the nicest color is this original one lol
I suspect there's going to be a new "starting point" for relics by the time 3.0 rolls around.
If they really expect people to go back and grind old content to this degree after the expansion lands then they're really overselling how much new content it's actually going to bring.
I reeeeeeeeeeally hope they don't continue with this relic line for jobs post-expansion unless they change some things. Getting nexus lights would probably be the worst, since you're forced to use an i110 weapon when everyone else is using i140(?) or whatever at that point.
I could see a shortcut to the i130 stage or something, once the expansion's out (though I question how they'd handle the user-chosen stats if they're bypassing that step). I'm more inclined to think there'll just be a new questline unrelated to the current one, and the current one will end at i130/135.
3.0 brings a level cap increase. Expecting these relics to go forward from 50>60 and expecting the new jobs to use the old template is pants-on-head retarded because nobody is going to be doing these dungeons or these primals when we're all 60. SE's got some questionable design decisions, but expecting everyone to do years'-old content flies in the face of even Yoshi's vertical scaling here.
or there may be new "relic" equivalent, except you do it through new contents and not hydra > now
being said, no harm holding 1 set incase tho, if shit hits the fan, can just upgrade my book/staff/sword/shield
for me, i strongly believe there is a "oh hi new players and new lvl 60 cap, heres a quest to get zodiac right at lvl 60 but you need to do new dungeon 2000 times"
and also another quest for current zodiac holders "oh you already got zodiac, heres a shortcut to lvl 60 version quest"
Yeah, I'm not sure how SE is going to reconcile this. It seems odd to design a quest-line that requires hundreds of hours to grind a relic (especially the first one) to the current final stage, have it be useful for a few months, then completely toss it aside at the 3.0 release. Sure, many people got a lot of good use out of their relic at times between release and now, but from a design standpoint, will it really be so easy to toss it aside in 3.0? This is something that could really piss off a lot of people.
I wonder if SE thought their cunning plan all the way through.
or it may remain, but atma become 100%, books require 50 poetics, dungeon mob fate requirement become 1 FATE/1 dungeon/kill 3 per mob, and then bright lights gives 50 points, dungeon atma drop 100%
some tweaks to make pre 50 relic really easy to catch up. im sure they have those in mind some time soon
this also keeps current content "useful" than just totally toss them into the trash can
grinding 9 original books and 2000 lights with current template at lvl 60 is going to be fucking retarded
Spoiler: show
Fuck yeah, 1/1 AV. Too bad my luck with DD is the exact opposite, at 20+ clears without a drop now.
Gear philosophy doesn't allow us to continue using our relics post-50. I mean, they could make them relevant again at the 60 cap, but due to ilvl scaling these things are going to be junk once we get a dungeon or two down the road. I expect it to be how WoW works after an expansion: A perfectly-gemmed, perfectly-geared Heroic Raider is going to be replacing purples and oranges with greens three or four levels later. Expect Coil Gear to make it to character level 54 at the max before raw ilvl crushes it.
Looking at how gear is spaced out currently, I don't really expect too many sets and much difference between 50 and 60. 2 inbetween sets at beast and then it's 60 and back to the grindwheel.
yay changed my stats on Last Resort

I'd hope they do it like 2.0 where you get Lv 20ish, 30ish, 40ish, 50ish gears... so probably every 3 levels from 51-> 60 you'd get "gear sets".
I'm more or less curious on how they will do... gear ilvl steps. Will it go the wow route and be noticeable stronger per few levels, or keep it the same small steps?
If its small steps like it is now, it'll be near pointless to get gear every few levels, you could go from lv 51->60 from your i130 and be pretty decently geared that entire time.
Also curious on what they will do with GP/CP for crafting/gathering... and the current shard/crystal/cluster system... (if that stays the same, prices will go through the roof to obscene levels)
erm anyway, for relic, I think someone mentioned, it will have 1? more step for 2.X and at lv60 do one big leap to be like 2.0's relic...?
They could make older content relevant still through bonus.. X tomestones and gear/level caps.. and savage mode 4mans! o_o
My personal theory is that we'll "complete" the Zodiac weapons in 2.x and that'll be the end of that. We're moving locales come 3.0 and it would be more interesting to have a new "relic" process start there; Ancient Ishgardian weapons thought lost to the 1000 Year War, legendary artifacts that have fallen into the hands of the new beast factions, hoarded treasures from the ancient dragons' lairs. The relic process was designed to give us something to do across the whole of 2.0-2.58 and it's a fair bet we'll see something new spring up from 3.0's process.
Item level I see going one of two ways: Either barely any increase from 50 to 60 and we're running around capped around i150 before 3.1, or complete and utter Burning Crusadification and we're going to be 210 upon reaching 60, then branching upwards with content. Our ilvl indicator does show four digits, and while some of that is undoubtedly future-proofing, it means they're set going up to 9999. That, and returning to crush old content under the might of inflation is tried and true in MMO spaces.
Just like XI, with their own 'relic' on Expansions
Yeah the OF butthurt threads would be in the thousands if they killed Relics come 3.0. (I hope they do)
The grind is long enough that it will take most into 3.0 to finish, assume the "final" step is along the same lines as the last couple.
They tried to kill relics in FFXI and the game went ape shit. FFXIV player base is way more bitchy.
Final stage to make your Zodiac 140: Clear Turn13.
Oh, the tears...!
Good point. I suspect this is what will happen.
Still sucks to go through that whole tour de force grind only to end up with some shitty-looking tree branch anyone could find by walking about the Shroud for 5 minutes. Although I did use my relic extensively (aside from a few Yagrush months), I don't wanna fall victim again to the sunk cost fallacy with a new relic in 3.0. Fuck that. I'll hobo it up with catch-up staves like Yagrush (earned via ST, not second coil). And then I'll eat these words as I get sucked into the 3.0 relic.
On a sorta related note, SE's relic quest-line amuses me. It covers the breadth of content available in 2.0, except these quests carefully avoid any content that could accidentally award someone with a better-than-relic alternative.
