I just reread it, explains why I couldn't find it in the NA patch notes (searching for Atma).

It specifies Alexandrite, not Atma.

I got an alexandrite in the very first FATE I participated in yesterday, and then none in the rest of the 10-15 I did. We're working with small samples and small percentages, though, so anecdotal evidence.

This was my exact experience as well, have yet to get a second. Still, its nice to get something.

Assuming patch notes are correct in JP and EN, you're wrong. This change only applies to Gold and/or drop rate scales with participation level.

Niiro isn't wrong, update just applies to Alexandrite only. You can still get Atma from won/failed and/or gold/silver/bronze FATEs.

oh I see what happened now, I wrote atma instead of alex in my second post. the previous 5-6 posts were still about alex though, that's what we were discussing.

That said, it seems stupid they wouldn't make it so a higher ranking increased the drop rate of both, rather than have it just apply to Alex.

But then again, SE logic.

tbh atma drop rate is in a really good place, and in my opinion alex should have mirrored that rate. farming the equivalent of 75 atmas plus all the materias for a relic stage isn't really unreasonable from either a design balance perspective nor a player time spent perspective compared to what it is atm.
