Sorta. It's like post-buff Atma rates, though if you're going to do that, I suggest SBing at the same time in Mor Dhona FATEs.

From my experience it takes about 30 minutes to an hour on average to get an alexandrite from fates.

It's been streaky for me. I don't think it's worth the time compared to straight soldiery farm -> buy map + daily expert quest.

I do them a lot. Spirit Bond + GC seals + Alex make it an ok time investment. It will never be great but you don't have to deal with randoms in DF.

Queue for dungeons and do Fates in between or something more productive. Or go after hunts etc and kill Fates while roaming etc.

I did a good chunk of mine from FATEs and it's pretty fucking awful. Luckily I had a couple friends doing it too so we just slogged it out in North Shroud, seemed to be the best area until somewhere like North Thanalan is more active. The drop rate is complete shit though (definitely significantly worse than atma), so you're definitely better to capitalize on hunts/daily/soldiery maps whenever you can.

I felt really good one evening when I got 3 in a few hours after work and then I realized if that was a sustainable constant it would STILL take me almost a full month to get that stage done.

I grinded alex for an alt solely doing fates (and the daily alex, but that must have been like 10, at most). I got about 60 of them on middle la noscea/lower la noscea alone. I would get one out of every ten fates or so, in average. The most time I went without one was around 50m, but beats the hell out of North Thanalan where I spent around 5 hours for a single alex..
