So it seems like for people like me who were waiting on a new job to start on Atma/Animus, it would be prudent now to get any old job to Animus step to be able to farm alexandrites in advance. Yea or nay?

I'd say yea since it seems you'll need 75 (probably less? I don't know don't have an animus) alexandrites so better to have them ready.

Did it as a test, but should of paid attention first.

Got first map from daily, had a friend come with me to see if they get alex as loot too. They got the gil but no alex. Mistake I made was they didn't have animus to try it out.

If anyone can get in pt with another person that has animus and see if you each get reward this could be another way to power it out. (wishful thinking I know.)

The fact it even lets you do it in a party is promising. Don't Boarskin maps fail to search if you're not solo/with bird?

Edit: I might be retarded. I got that error when in party but not in zone. Will test later if no one beats me to it.

Done all variety of pre-patch maps (even as low as Goatskin, the solo lv40 ones) in a full party. You can't open any maps if someone in the party isn't in the zone (or if there's a chocobo in the group, they must be un-mounted, otherwise they count as being out of the zone), so you're probably right that it was the zone issue.

So SE delayed this step of the Zodiac quest cause they wanted to add more ways to get Alexandrite which makes me wonder what exactly they had ready for 2.25 cause it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of ways to get alexandrite.

I would bet they only had FATEs. Which would have caused rage maybe.

Does the amount a stat is increased on a given materia have any bearing on this quest? Like if you infused two Savage Aim I materias already, does it indicate that you're 4/44 on possible crit?

Nope. I did Heaven's Eye I and I'm 1/53 on Curtana despite that materia giving 2 acc.

Suppose that you end up having to infuse higher tier materia as you go on, as many people suspect. This may mean that you can have a situation where you avoid having to use tier 4 materias for the secondary stat.

For example, a BLM opting to upgrade SpS to 44 and Crit to 31. Since Crit's materia tier progression can scale up to 44, the first 31 upgrades might not involve a Savage Aim IV.
