For myself, I probably would have done Acc/Det if I was bothering with novus since I did run into acc issues for a bit as I managed to only get the drops without acc on it first. My gear still can't support a weapon without acc on it and I don't feel like spending sands to sidegrade i110 just yet.

That is exactly my thinking. Either tank weapon should have some form of ACC on it. Tanking always requires the most ACC and can afford to miss the least.

    dang pld cannot cheat

It's just as Codek has mentioned. Basically, this only applies to paladins who have upgraded their Curtana Animus to Curtana Novus and are trying to upgrade their Holy Shield.

Also, as a side note just to debunk any rumors floating around, equipping both Curtana Animus and Holy Shield Animus at the same time will not improve the drop rate of Alexandrite from FATEs. Similarly, if you equip Curtana Animus and Holy Shield Zenith you will only receive alexandrite as a drop; you will not receive both atma and alexandrite.

The role of WAR in the current meta is (if you choose to bring 2 tanks): tank stuff while PLD is busy tanking things that hit harder, then let the PLD resume MT while WAR drops defiance and does dps, or swap briefly for stacks to drop. The only time defensive stats matter is if you are trying to solo tank something on WAR, and even then, most of T8 hits is either autos or magic.

In the T7 example, WAR holds boss while PLD is busy with first and last add sets, otherwise PLD is tanking. This is an overall increase in raid dps as well as a decrease in tank damage taken (path+oath).

This is why Crit/Det on axe is a solid choice as in current content you will be spending most of your time out of defiance not tanking, so you should be pushing as much damage as you can. But it does not provide future proofing for either a change in the meta or being able to comfortably meet new acc requirements. Acc/Det is an extremely safe choice which caters to both always capping acc while still retaining the most useful dps stat.

Would it be completely insane to add skill speed/accuracy on DRG Lance? I'm far more concerned with going forward than current content. Is DRG like MNK where high skill speed can eventually surpass other stats? Is there a point where you can modify your rotation for superior DPS with enough SS? Or should I just go something like Crit/Det and leave accuracy up to the rest of my gear? I have to imagine they'll keep putting out content though that'll require high amounts of acc and if these weapons do eventually become top of the line then you'd be shit out of luck if you didn't have an acc mod one.

Unless a fight dragons on way too long or I have to spam AoE I barely ever need to use invigorate which feels like a waste. That tends to be the major mark against the stat.

I'm of the mind that the Crit/DET route is a generally foolish one and Acc/DET would be the better option as far as future-proofing goes (or Acc/Parry for tank junk). Best case for Crit/DET is that the Novus is negligibly better than the High allagan weapon (if the HA one has a shit secondary stat), worst case it's worse and in either case you're rolling that dice again when the next set of Coil weapons come around. Acc/DET will always be useful, particularly at the start of new patches where accuracy may be in short supply.

I just do T7 adds in STR gear + STR spec with defiance on and rotate CDs. Haven't had a problem since like second week.

Edit: On second consideration stat wise 25 ACC 25 DET 25 crit does make a lot of sense for future proofing. The initial rise of ACC requirement is always a bitch, but I've never needed 44 ACC, that's silly. So 25 is a nice compromise for new content while still giving a big chunk of DET and decent crit.

If I have my way I like to use HQ Black Truffle Risotto, not any tank foods, so always have tank food ACC to fall back on.

Hmm, excellent points; thanks for the elaboration. I do find myself not tanking anything serious very often, as you've said. I'll definitely put more weight into DPS stats, perhaps eschewing Parry altogether, thanks. Definitely throwing some accuracy on though, there were several times in the gear upgrade process after 2.2 where I was either under cap or holding off on buying gear because of the zero accuracy on Bravura, so I'll definitely put some on for future proofing.

Nobody bitched at me when I was using the Leviathan axe, which is pure DPS stats, so you've definitely made me a convert.

The way I've seen my WAR unfold this patch was going from way too low accuracy to way too much (after getting HA pants). I still don't even have HA headpiece for that 25 accuracy. I think there is a lot to be said about the HA fending set in general when it comes to accuracy and am not overly concerned about using my weapon to "future-proof" any deficiencies in that area. There are just so many places to get accuracy. The mindset of knowing the axe will always be there, as will any accuracy that comes with it, is logical and I can see that. It definitely depends on a number of other factors we cannot predict too; new set's accuracy, order of replacement for you vs. other people, content's accuracy caps in general, etc. Far too many to list really.

If you wanna do more accuracy, go for it. But definitely don't pack Parry to the max on there. It will go unused more often than not (again, in current meta*).

*was it really that different in first coil, when you think about it?

The thing about the ACC on the HA set is that going forward with sands from CT and going on 3rd full rotation for people getting sands you should be replacing shit like HA head with 110 Noct head and the like.

So that will cut into the superfluous ACC a bit. Having it on weapon isn't such a bad idea, in moderation.

And regardless, you can drop pieces that have ACC to get other pieces.

My main line of thought was that it was better to have your WAR main tanking Twin in Coil1 because 1) predictable huge hits makes Inner Beast superior mitigation, and 2) PLD stuns on dreads was just oh so much better. But outside of that one particular fight, WAR MT doesn't really hold up, so I just needed to get out of that mindset.

I guess as far as future proofing goes with acc it cuts off on being useful whereas stats like determination are indefinitely useful so putting acc on the weapon might not be ideal. No thoughts on skill speed though? I'm thinking you could maybe upp the # of full thrust combos you could squeeze in with enough SS. I know when my skill speed drops too low I can't even sneak in two combos sometimes.

Skillspeed is terrible because of how fast you can get TP starved. There was a guy working on building a damage simulator and he assigned it a negative stat weight since you will become TP starved before Invigorate is up a second time, so really anything over 5min long that has no break in the fight.

Would be nice for tanks looking to get their mounts too.

Don't forget there's SB potions as well, forget +SB gear tho since that's just wasting slots for more gear to convert (except maybe meteor survivor rings, since they give the most +SB per slot, but we still don't know how effective +SB is anyway).
Never replied to this but golems don't give SB (at least not at a standard rate.) I've tried before.

I just recall someone mentioning them as a SB target, figured they'd be worth more per mob than coil 1 mobs (and endlessly spawning obv).

I don't feel like digging through the asshole of this thread and fuck leddit, but what was the tier distribution for Holy Shield Novus? It obviously has a maximum cap of +13 for a secondary attribute; but my question is how are the current four tiers (of Materia) distributed within it?

On a side note, I've noticed recently that the glow on the Sphere UI glows towards one direction pretty intensely now. Anyone with 2 stat melds see any noticeable glow difference?

Just for completions sake cause I finished this a while ago:

    Parry 12 - 100% Tier 4
    Parry 13 - 80% Tier 4

And accuracy is the same as Parry 1-9. No tier IVs for the second stat.

For the record, the glow operates exactly as you expect it would. I can only assume the words read "Battledance" and perplexingly, "Accuracy" based on the lengths of the words. Maybe that says "Heaven's Eye" but I can't tell.
