My DPS are all i90+ and we've timed out 3 times last night during our first go as a static. They all seem to be on par with the highest DPS in group (somewhat...) but how could we be timing out on a fight doable in the mid-80s? I never have this problem in PUGs so maybe we have some bad apples... but I don't want to think that.

As bard (which probably gives me a single gcd advantage) I get off windbite + venomous bite on the head, quelling in between gcd, straight shot, hawks + b4b in between, windbite + venombite. Then adds spawn and I dot both of them.

My DPS are all i90+ and we've timed out 3 times last night during our first go as a static.
You're timing out? As in after the second astral flow you don't finish it off in the ~2 minutes and it enrages?

Are people new to the fight? I know my group had some DPS issues our first couple goes because we were all trying to pay attention to dives and shit. Once you learn the fight all the way it's much easier as your DPS doesn't needa worry if they're gonna catch a surprise dive because they don't know when it's coming. Now it dies shortly after it's first dive after 2nd Tidal Wave.

Stuff you can do to maximize DPS (aimed as if you have the general idea of how to play your job, like DRG rotation, WAR doing unchained/zerk stuff, etc)

BRD: Not much. just CD management and Requiem for your casters. Putting DoTs on head is gonna be like 1.4k to 2k damage to yourself depending on if you autoattack so it's not recommended generally.
BLM: Not much. You could put thundercloud procs onto the tail and just eat 1 reflect hit but that's probably a marginal thing. Can Flare adds if your OT gets them all bunched up by tail and just eat the reflect damage (Manaward probably helps).
SMN: DoTs on both head and tail. Ideally you want to Bane from adds or spumes to tail but you can just eat the reflect hits because they're kind of staggered and you're not taking much else damage. Obviously don't do this during spume explosions and/or Tidal Roar but that goes for everyone.

Melee in general: Position yourself on body slam to slide into head to hit it asap. OT can tag head with Fracture before going to tail.
DRG: Float between head and tail maintaining Heavy/Chaos/Phleb.
MNK: Dunno if it's practical or TP-efficient to float between tail and head like DRG does, but put Demolish or ToD on head if possible I guess? I dunno I don't MNK.

Going off your recommendation of thunder on tail as BLM, iirc the reflect only did like 200 damage to me last night. IDR if I had succor or stoneskin on me though, don't pay much attention to to floating numbers on myself

That's about right for a single hit with SS+succor. 700ish unmitigated iirc.

High 600's with WHM proctect, but yeah.

I've started to pray the OT takes the add next to the tail just for Bane, now :3

Additionally, main tank WARs can drop defiance the entire fight (Though I guess defiance + infuriate + unchained > Inner beast would be a slight DPS increase if you only do two attacks before using Unchained).

I've been to many Levi parties where the damage is so high that the 2nd TW will deal 30k damage regardless of how much elemental resistance you got on the machine thing. But then I've been to other parties where this doesn't happen. Is pushing Levi into a rage before the 2nd Tidal Wave a thing?

yes, it is a thing. I don't know the exact percentage he jumps after the splume phase, but it will definitely speed up if he gets too low.

This is FFXIV: A Realm Reborn Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida.

Thank you so much for your feedback regarding the Mirror of the Whorl. Deciding on appropriate measures to address this issue and finalize the processes required to do so took longer than expected, so I would like to apologize for the late announcement.

In particular, I would like to address the issue faced by paladins and white mages, who require two Mirrors of the Whorl to upgrade both a weapon and shield, while other jobs require only one.

A new system allowing players to exchange one item for two rewards was scheduled to be implemented, but due to unforeseen circumstances, it was not ready in time for patch 2.2. As a result, paladins and white mages were left without means to exchange a mirror for both their weapons and shields as a set. I realize this has greatly inconvenienced you all, and I sincerely apologize for the current implementation.

Many players are also concerned with low drop rates, but I would like to assure you that the drop tables for weapons and shields are separate and balanced to prevent inequality between paladins, white mages, and other jobs. Unfortunately, this is not the case for Mirrors of the Whorl, as the new exchange system was not ready in time for patch 2.2.

When taking into account the various trials and duties introduced with each update, we generally offer alternatives to obtain weapons and shields of the same item level while making adjustments to overall character enhancement. This is especially true for paladins. However, only one one-handed weapon for white mages was added in Patch 2.2, leaving those who would prefer to use a one-handed weapon and shield at a disadvantage.

A similar situation arose with the black mage weapon obtainable in the Binding Coil of Bahamut - Turn 5, and we addressed this in Patch 2.1 by adding a shield that could be obtained as a reward for clearing the three extreme primal battles. However, this still resulted in a disadvantageous situation due to the item level of this shield.

The new exchange system allowing players to exchange one item for two rewards is scheduled for implementation before patch 2.3. Moving forward, we will make every effort to ensure equality in rewards received by all jobs.

Additionally, in response to feedback regarding the difficulty of obtaining a Mirror of the Whorl due to its low drop rate and the need to also win a lot, the following adjustments will be made with Patch 2.25, which is scheduled to be released at the end of April.
The Tidal Wave Shield will be added as a possible shield reward for The Whorleater (Extreme).
The Tidal Wave Buckler will be added as a possible shield reward for The Whorleater (Extreme).
Players that have used a Mirror of the Whorl to upgrade a Wave Shield or Wave Buckler before Patch 2.25 will receive an additional Mirror of the Whorl.
While the rate at which shields appear will be higher, let me reiterate that the drop tables for weapons and shields are separate, and these changes will have no effect on the drop rate for weapons.

Furthermore, for those who have already upgraded their Wave Shields and Wave Bucklers, the development and operations teams will analyze player data to determine who has already enhanced these shields, and we will be sending these players a Mirror of the Whorl via mog letter after the release of Patch 2.25.

This analysis will take place during the maintenance period for Patch 2.25, and we plan to send Mirrors of the Whorl to players a few days after the patch is released.

I apologize again for the inconvenience, and ask for your patience as we work to address this matter.

The amount of DPS SMN can do in this fight is ridiculous. Everything from bane / dots on tail to fester / ED / bio / ruin 2 while sliding. I've yet to lose a parse, unless I was dead for more than 10% HP. It's my favorite fight to do just to rub in people's faces that their tank is out DPSing them.

One step closer to my dream of 4 SMN as my DPS every run 5ever.

This sounds pretty painful. Do you have the OT pick up both adds instead of doing 1 each? I'm going to be tanking this for my group but every day I hear new things for WAR MT lol

Yeah, the OT can grab both adds without issue. I don't think MT WAR without defiance is common, so if you're making a PUG or a progression group for the FC/LS, I wouldn't try this unless your healer agrees. The only reason I know this because I told to the WAR to try MT without defiance and curing was simple.

I think he meant him being his group's regular/official tank playing SMN, his not "main class", on Levi.
