    Snowpiercer (June 27,2014)

In a future where a failed global-warming experiment kills off most life on the planet, a class system evolves aboard the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe via a perpetual-motion engine.
Figured I'd make a new thread for it since it hasn't been released in the US yet. There's been a fair amount of conflict over the movie because The Weinsteins wanted to cut 40 min out of it saying American audience would not understand it but apparently they backed out on it so the movie should be shown as intended.
Anyways, watched it yesterday and it was fantastic. I thought Chris Evans did great job acting in this one too.

I absolutely loved the first half, then it began to drag. Still really liked it overall. The style and cinematography felt unique and original.

Saw this yesterday and really liked it. A solid 7/10 but I'm also sad because it could've been so much more. I'm usually strictly against cutting stuff out if it was intended to be in originally, but it could use some cuts. Not a full 40min, but maybe 10-15min. Some scenes were interesting but dragged too long (kindergarden) and the sushi one was irrelevant. Tilda Swinton's character seemed way to comical compared to the overall gritty tone. Like it would perfectly fit into a Hunger Games movie but not this. Some spoilery stuff:

    Spoiler: show
The arrangement of the wagons. Ok, they didn't show every single one but kindergarden after slaughterhouse and the club full of druggies next to the engine? The Terminator/Superman guy. Apart from beeing immortal, he just goes ham on his own people for no reason. Then the stopping the engine with his arm. Yes, it fits the story but come on. There's a table right next to you....and of course the ending. The in your face happily ever after just doesn't work with all that happend before. A more subtle like blending off when the girl/boy awake after the crash would still project hope, but without all that sugar coating.

Also didn't understand the fuzz about the bugs protein bars. That's some damn good protein and as long as it doesn't resemble the animal, I see no problem.

I didn't understand it either. Dealing with limited resources and to top it off their treatment, I expected something not as tame.

Post-apocalyptic movie with a "Perpetual Motion Engine"? Sounds like a convoluted sci-fi type of movie like "Mr. Nobody," that everyone recommended awhile back. I can't imagine this being that bad, but I've been much more crabby towards that genre since then lol

That was an artsy french produced film. If you don't have a taste for those, you won't enjoy them.

This is korean produced, generally a much safer bet. It's by the same guy who did "The Host".

I really like the concept. Even if it's not high art, I definitely am interested in checking this out.
