This seems like bullshit, had it been posted yet? Someone with more time care to figure out if its accurate? I know nothing about the subject but the article provided references if anyones interested.
Always disregard this kind of stuff if it's not backed by a peer reviewed study.

Good luck getting a peer reviewed study on the practical applications of a substance that's still illegal at a federal level. Just getting any studies done on the patently obvious effects (pain suppression, increases in appetite, etc) was like pulling teeth for decades.

Ya cause America is the only country that does meaningful research.

"My uncle is 1/3rd african american..."

I don't really understand the purpose of people insisting on trying to downplay Ebola. I feel like the more people act all smug and "point out" how Ebola isn't a real concern, the more likely it is to get less funding from international community to prevent it from actually becoming a real thing.

Unless these people WANT there to be less aid/funding for Ebola?

I think funding could better be appropriated for diseases and research that's actually useful.

I mean, if we lack the resources to control and fight it, fine, but I don't think that's the case and I don't think funding out of pure fear a good way to encourage healthy education on the issue.

Except the people who are now laughing it up about the concept of Ebola in US are the same people who were going "OH LOL 100 PEOPLE HAVE EBOLA IN AFRICA? THEY'LL DIE OFF BEFORE IT EVER BECOMES A THING. LOL EPIDEMIC MY ASS". If people had been seriously concerned back then, it wouldn't have ravaged Africa in a few short months.

And now we're doing the same thing for here.

TIL the US has the same risk of spreading Ebola as Africa, a continent ravaged by a disease spread in a similar way to Ebola.

huge difference between "this is not cause for concern" and "why does the news insist on sensationalizing everything? this isn't something to fear yet." plus, such sensationalism is equally harmful because it's like crying wolf.

but i don't expect you to understand such subtleties. Things are so much simpler in Canada.

What scares people about ebola is the high kill rate, much like other unlikely events such as an airplane accidents.

There's definitely a difference between general apprehension about how the Dallas case was handled and specific wariness if you're in a medical profession and might need to ask a few extra questions if you come into contact with someone who's showing initial symptoms and may have come into contact with someone else who had ebola (either because they were in West Africa or because they are a medical worker treating a case over here).

A lot of the fearmongering could have been avoided if we weren't told "every precaution is being taken in treating this patient" (in Dallas) and then learn a few weeks later that they basically broke almost every protocol imaginable when it comes to isolation and disposal of contaminated materials.

That's not what I said. What I said was the people who were laughing it off when it was 100 people in Africa were pretty quick to change their message to laughing it off about it spreading in the US. If people hadn't insisted on laughing it off when it first came around, it wouldn't have ravaged Africa.

Brownie points for being such badasses to not care about Ebola at the cost of Africa though.

    1. It's not ravaging Africa.

    2. Laughing it off isn't the reason why certain countries in Africa are having problems controlling the virus.
