Still unnaturally proud of myself for making my FFXIV setup completely keyboard based like FFXI. To hell with the mouse.

This is 100% the best way of playing FFXIV. People complain about certain control issues in endgame that I have no problems with at all whatsoever because I'm 100% keyboard. I only have to use the mouse to place ground abilities and even then it's usually just a single left click with my cursor at the middle of the screen.

Admittedly it is less comfy than controller but easily offers more advantages than the controller in terms of how many things can I do at once. You can probably get a similar usability factor out of a gamepad based on the limited hot keys available without having to switch but it would be difficult to set up. My limiting factor currently is not having a mechanical keyboard with n-roll over so I get ghosting and stutter step sometimes. Otherwise I can move, move my camera, command my pixie and command myself with very little problems. I know a lot of people complain about not being able to click on characters for healing which is just dumbfounding to me. Why you would even bother using anything other than F1-F8 (or a F1-F4/S+F1-S+F4 type rebind) is just beyond me. The amount of time it takes to visually lock onto a target move your cursor and THEN press a button (or press a button and do the same thing) is just dumb. Plus all the misclicks, clicking off, etc.

I use a controller for crafting but that's about it. I just need to do too many things at once without getting caught up switching palettes.

Also, despite having 20+ vacation days I took none because
A) I had nothing to do
B) Why take vacation days to stay at home and do nothing
C) Please stop asking me why I never take time off
D) When I finally do take time off please stop making a big deal out of me staying home to play video games. Yes I know I had point B but this is different because a new patch was just released and it's objectively more fun to play it immediately than to wait.

Logitech G-series keyboard, G keys and gaming software. Might also need a Logitech mouse to get it to load the mouse functions, idk.

Numbers perfectly articulated why I loved playing with the keyboard. It was especially useful on Scholar seeing as how you can easily manipulate your fairy to do your bidding. I remember before 2.2 dropped, I had Eos almost completely solo heal the entire fight along with the WHM. I'm sure it's possible doing so with a normal set up but it's just so much more convenient with an all keyboard set up. I just sat there and pretended to be a Summoner. It was always fun when she spawned the plumes because you could Bane the plumes and dramatically up your DPS on the parsers. Garuda was easily one of the best e-Peen fights for my Scholar.
