Fallon's physical comedy is what sets him apart from the other late night hosts. Slow Jam the News, History of rap, history of dance, lip sync contests, etc.
Colbert not afraid to do singing/dancing bits so it should be fun.

I am not much of a -late night- show watcher and I only watch when a guest comes on that I really want to see but I watch Colbert every night after TDS. I also feel mixed about seeing him out of his Colbert character and I cant seem to imagine him hosting a talk show that way. I did enjoy seeing him as himself though in the small amount of times that I have. I am certain I will miss his show on Comedy Central so I am but-hurt about that and at the same time, glad that he got a nice promotion. I wonder if anyone will take over his show on Comedy Central. It would be awkward.
Colbert on CBS will have the same kind of access to special guests as Fallon; he already did it a ton on CC and this will give him way more. That will probably be the most amazing part of his show.
I'm going to completely disagree with you. Those moments are often the funniest. Case in point, hands down the funniest SNL skit I've seen:

Eh, opinions. But yeah, I've just never liked him since then.
I haven't kept up with this, but Colbert isn't bringing the character? Cause Colbert out of character is a very smooth guy, but too boring to entertain me like Comedy Central does.
Totally agree. I had to hand it to Fallon because he began The Tonight Show with two fucking awesome bits:
and
He feels pretty comfortable and he's got smart and funny writers. He still irritates me with some of the stuff he does in the monologue and in interviews, and I'm pretty sure that's left over from my SNL hatred. But I still have to give him credit. (I mean, he had like three years to hold some killer bits for the beginning of The Tonight Show, after all.)
But the bottom line is Stephen Colbert is fucking awesome, character or no, and I'll watch the shit out of his show.
I actually don't mind fallon. I have watched a few of his shows and they aren't too bad. The breaking character bit always made me laugh, but then I used to watch the Carol Bernette Show religiously and it was pretty much Tim Conway's goal to make Harvey Korman laugh every time.
Here's the thing and I feel Askyanni cause I was a theater nerd myself. If the break is unplanned on a live show, like the very very rare Will Ferrell break, then yeah it can be hilarious. If you use it as a crutch and gimmick to get a laugh every. single. time. you are on screen it comes off cheap, and just shitty. Like I see right through it and it's annoying to the 100th power.
I have a friend that is begging me to watch his tonight show and I just can't do it. I'm sure he's better, and has some good bits, but he forever ruined himself for me. Not that he cares I'm sure, but at least I know I'm not alone.
I don't think fallons monologues are as strong as the other late night hosts. The skits he does are entertaining for sure though, like charades with Bradley Cooper.
actually i havent even seen the new tonight show when i had direct i always watched kimmel anyway how is it?
this is how I feel about Fallon. It wasn't just a few skits here and there or trying to make other cast members break, he was just terrible at freaking holding it together in every single skit he ever did on SNL. Look at the Debbie Downer skit, he instantly breaks.
I have hope that Colbert will be good but I guess I'm just used to his persona. I'll haveta see how he turns out and I'm sure the writing will be great
