o they're all the same? cause i saw some that requires to plant 3 types of seeds so it confuses me
Cross breeding only involves two plants.

Also, the different grade of soil give you different grades of results. E.g. Higher chances of Cross/HQ/Yield with each grade.

From what I've read - I think that planting the seeds that grow minions can be in any soil. If you want to crossbreed them with something else - then use grade 3 thanalan soil and plant in the order that is described other places so that the crossbreed is in the correct direction. X + Y may not always be the same a Y + X when it comes to minion crossbreeding - I think. Not sure - I have not planted any minion seeds or tried to crossbreed them...but the descriptions so far do not always seem to indicate the crossbreeding is always symmetrical.

Interestingly enough someone has reported getting seeds out of a minion using Shroud soil for increased yield, with no inter-crossing taking place.

    Excellent questions.

Let's figure out what the answers could be...

I'll take a couple of guesses...

First possibility - you have three minion seeds and you want to grow them for the friends who helped you. Easy peasy - plant them one at at time - in any soil and they'll grow to be minions in about a week. Harvest - give away - tada.

First and a half possibility - you have three minion seeds that you want to grow for friends - and you want to try to crossbreed them hoping for seeds for more minions. You'd need to plant the seeds in thanalan grade 3 soil (90% chance of crossbreeding) - and plant them in an order that the crossbreed based on experiments other folks have done. From the lodestone forum - the crossbreedings for minions that have been found so far are (note - these may or may not be completely correct):

    Onion Prince:
    - Krakka + Azeyma Rose
    - Krakka + Mandrake. - alt. Mimett Gourd

    King Tomato:
    - Krakka + Broom-bush
    - Krakka + Jute
    - Mimett Gourd + Almond

    Eggplant Knight:
    - Krakka + Star Anise
    - onion prince. + Krakka
    - Wild Onion + Onion Prince

    Garlic Jester:
    - Mandrake - Garlic Clove
    - random result - Flax(harvested) + chamomile.
    - Dzealma Tomato + Mandrake

    Mandy Queen:
    - Nymeia Lily + Mandrakes

These are what I've seen on that forum - they have not all been confirmed as happened more than once and for different people... But they are what had been posted so far (I've been trying to follow the discussion thread and keep updating the list of cross breeding results).

If you happen to have a minion seed that can be crossbreed according to these possibilities - then give it a shot and hope for the best. How do it work? I think that you would plant Wild Onion and then Onion Prince right next to the wild onion (used grade 3 thanalan soil for the onion prince) and grow grow grow and hope that the harvest of the onion prince results in and eggplant knight. I may have the planting order backwards - so search around to find the combination and get the order correct.

Second possibility - you have a minion seed and want to grow more of them - similar to the above - but hope to plant one seed and crossbreed it with another to get another minion - and eventually grow the minions... Sort of both of the above - but longer. Many minions can be grown from seeds you can gather - so so that if you have the chance.

When growing minions - I suspect that the soil types that won't do much are the HQ flavor (as I don't know of any HQ minion) and the higher yield soil probably won't do much either as you will likely only ever get one minion from a seed. This translates into try the thanalan grade 3 soil for cross breeding and setup the seeds in the 'right' order and hope for a cross breeding to get another seed for later.

    Good luck!

I've linked to a post a couple up where someone has done an experiment with the minion growing using Shroud Soil, with no intercross plants on either side (i.e. empty beds). It resulted in them getting an Eggplant Knight seed from the Onion Prince minion. So at the very least it may be worth growing your minions with shroud soil to increase yield. As far as I know there are no intercrosses that result directly from minions, so you don't have much to lose. But it seems that the second "yield" slot on these minions might be reserved for seeds.

In other news I logged on really excited last night to harvest the first minion from our garden. Turns out an FC member with a decent amount of access had returned after a long break (no housing etc.), stumbled upon the garden, and promptly clicked on the harvestable plant. He then popped the minion with all the others he'd received from SE in the mail without realising... I was just about destroyed after all the soil and time that's gone into the garden, but thankfully it was resolved at the Market Board pretty quickly.

I planted my Thav Onion seed + King Tomato seed this morning and promptly took away everyone's permissions to do anything other than look at the garden from 10 feet away.

Sometime this week I'm going to do

    (Sylkis) (Royal Kuruku) (Sylkis)
    (Royal Kuruku) () (Royal Kuruku)
    (Sylkis) (Royal Kuruku) (Sylkis)

That database shows this giving Thav.Onions. Than soil for all 8 right? or +yield better for sylkis?

I would suggest using thanalan grade 3 soil for the best chance of crossbreeding. Plant one seed next to the other - so clockwise or counter clockwise so that you get seven plants that will crossbreed. The first seed planted in an empty garden does not crossbreed - as the crossbreeding happens when the seed is planted.

There are some folks experimenting with alternating thanalan soil with the high yield soil and the results are kind of interesting. I've seen only one posting with results which showed one plant that had a lot of seeds from one plant. The crossbreeding possibilities are a lot less - but this could work... I want to see more results to know how it could go before I try it. I only have one deluxe garden so I go slowly on everything

    Good luck!

i personally have only seen ONE seed using grade 3 thanalan, but they does seem to be 90%

my krakkas is always grade 3 shroud and so far i getting 9 seeds from each krakka when i get lucky but only 2x9 over 16 krakkas

which is interesting because that makes 1+ seed per krakka on average which is better than 90% but small sample size

Did you end up using your first onion or selling it?

Also yes, very sad. Hoping there is some self-sustaining combo.

Yeah I've already talked myself into just feeding it to my choco the second I harvest it, but future ones I may sell.

But I really want that lv11 chocobo.

People are buying the Eggplant Knight minion for 1mil. The Thav onion is MUCH harder to procure. 5M -shouldn't- be out of the question, but apparently it is.

I'm in no rush to sell, if it doesn't sell I'll just use it on my own choco (not level10 yet . . .)
